I can't say that I love Jesus.
That would be a hollow claim. He did make some observations And I'm quoting them today. "Judge not lest ye be judged." What a beautiful refrain. - R.E.M. (New Test Leper)

As mentioned above, Nick Cave and Tom Waits just completely clean up in this category.
To add a few others: 16 Horsepower: Lot's of good ole' fashion fire and brimstone religion: "When will I hurt for heaven's sake. When will I suffer for the sake of heaven." Trailer Bride: - The only band to put the country back in alt-country. "well my momma says 'that's a pretty good song, but you ought to be singing for jesus' 'I know I should, someday I just might, hope Jesus will forgive me tonight'" -- Porch Song "Poor little lightnin bug, I know just how you feel. He's flashin hard at my porch light. She's real pretty, she won't listen. She's a white-hot 60 watt vixen." -- Itchin' For You fuck, that right there's the pinacle of song writing - a light bulb as a sex symbol. |

No clue if they've been mentioned yet, but just in case:

So many great lines to mention from Overkill lyrics, but this one has always been one of my favourite from the song "The Cleansing":
My God made love And my God made pain I feel at home Amoung the insane I see sunshine In the pouring rain Welcome Home...oh yes I recognize you |

I didn't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if these have been posted, but in the middle of "Hey you" there's a line that just makes my day every time I hear it. It goes (something like - it's off the top of my head)
"But it was only fantasy The wall was too high as you can see No matter how he tried he could not break free and the worms ate into his brain" It means so much more to me, too, after watching the pink floyd movie. |
