My current 80's phase

I listen to so much music from so many differents from genres that I often go through phases of what I listen to. I'm currently in a big 80's prog phase. I've been listening to The Cure (one of my all-time favorite bands), Duran Duran, Chroma Key and David Bowie a lot latelym not to mention a lot of Madonna. This phase may or may not be caused from my recent obsession with I Love the 80's on VH1, but I think people rip far too much on the 80's and overlook how much amazing music it gave birth to. Feel free to support my thoughts, or completely disagree.

I like 80s msic, but more the metal side of things...Metallica, Motley Crue, Metallica, W.A.S.P Twisted Sister, Anthrax, etc. But almost anything from the 80s is better than a lot of today's music

the 80s were an incredible time for music, I find myself listening to THIS internet radio station a lot lately. It's a very good channel.

David Bowie all the way, check out some New Order too, brilliant stuff.

Anyone know of any decent new retro-80's-synth bands?

I'm a BIG 80's music fan. AL OF IT! Slayer! DJ Jazzy JEff & The Fresh Prince! Duran Duran! Twisted Sister! Public enemy! NEw Edition! Megadeth! Warrant! Hi-Five! Old Prince! Frankie Goes To Hollywood!

Ok, I stop there. But, I think 80's musci is great. I'm more of a fan of mid-to-late 80's music since that's when I was growing up, but it's all great as far as I'm concerned.

I absolutly love the 80's especially new wave, oh man i wish that were still going on now. I think the best music of the 80s was all the gothic music, depeche mode, the cure, sisters of mercy. defenetly something I still listen to. I love that show "I Love the 80s" its so much fun. Brings back so many memories!

The 80's were the best!! Back then, all I listened to was the heavy metal type stuff, and would refuse to listen to anything else. In the early nineties, I got hooked on alternative, which came from Progressive, and New wave, so I started liking all those bands I couldn't stand. I still listen to the 80's stuff a lot.

Billbaord top 200 albums from 1988

I think alot of 80's music sucked (some exceptions being Gn'R, Van Halen, Metallica, Megadeth, Aerosmith), but that list of top 200 albums destroys what's on the top 200 from this week.

(Appetite for Destruction at number 2 after 147 weeks? Damn! i don't think it's possible for an album to last that high up on the chart for that long nowadays, let alone a good album)

I love the fact that 80's music is so popular today. I've said it on other threads, that some of that music was so influential, but it wasn't always the stuff you heard on top 40 stations. I seems that most of the music that really lasted was alternative or the metal/rock. I was considered so wierd for liking Depeche Mode, The Cure, Echo, The Smiths, New Order and all the Ska bands. Good taste ruled out in the end.

If you like the 80's prog/synth rock stuff, with a slightly industrial twist, check out 30 Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto's band. They kick ass.

Haha, glad you like it. They're the best actor-turned-musician band I've ever heard. And if this dry spell continues...those sexual favors might be an option

Only the extended 12" remix of Rock Me Amadeus counts though. With the life history of Amaedeus going up to 198x "when Austrian rock singer Falco records 'Rock Me Amadeus'" .... absolute classic.

Sign me up too! I gave em' a listen, must find album.
I've been listening to a fair bit of Pixies, Jane's Addiction, The Cure, Ramones. All the stuff I shoulda been listening to when I was a lad.

I remember hearing the extended Rock Me Amadeus too, I almost shot rum and coke through my nose when I heard that.

(Edit : Oh yeah, I'm on a steady Police regimen as well)

I love a lot of music from the 80's - the cure, the smiths, the birthday party, joy division, depeche mode, the pixies. sonic youth was doing some great stuff in the 80s - daydream nation came out in '88. and I have to admit I enjoy the police.
