Welsh bands

I would value opinions on any of these that you've heard of - I think I'm a bit biased cos they're from my country, but I really like them. Also I'm interested in how famous they are outside UK

Manic Street Preachers
Stereophonics
Super Furry Animals
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

and does anyone know of Budgie, from a while back ?

cheers,

Manic Street Preachers - Highly underrated band here in the states. I don't want to bourgoise because of them. hehe... Most of our contact with them happened when Travis tried to make contact with the US public. It didn't work too well, and we all took the stance that all UK bands stunk.

Then Coldplay showed up.

Then we all died.

(coldplay not a terrible band. Just... not what we are used to. Overrated)

=====

For some reason I keep getting Stereophonics and Hooverphonic mixed up.

=====

Super Furry Animals - they get a lot of airtime on a public radio station I listen to. I just never got around to actually listening to them. I hear them, but I don't actually listen.

=====

and I know the name of Gorkys, but I have no idea if I have ever heard them before.

Lostprophets are my favorite welsh band personally... leaps and bounds better than the "nu-metal" they're compared to...

Their new single (Burn Burn) kinda sucks though.

I'll have to check out Lostprophets .. know of em, but not listened to stuff.

Cerys has just done an country-ish album with Nashville musicians.. only heard one track but she's singing on it, so it's got to be good. She's lovely.

thanks for the info people.

The Manics were never able to break through here in the US, but they definitely have a good fanbase, including myself.
I think the most famous Welsh band over here would be Feeder, though I know some people think they are too much of a pop band. I think they're alright though.

Their best song is probably Shinobi Vs. Dragon Ninja. Minor hit here, got an ok share of airplay, but it's just awesome. One of the catchiest guitar lines I've EVER heard. Kerrang apparently loved their album, The Fake Sound of Progress and they won an award for best new artist in 2002. Some of their other good songs are Kobrakai, A Thousand Apologies, For Sure, and Five is a Four Letter Word.

Funeral For A Friend are an amazing Welsh band. I guess the best way to describe them would be melodic hardcore. Their first US release Seven Ways to Scream Your Name EP should be in stores today on Ferret Records. Check them out.
