Portishead (oh yeah)
Portishead has to be the best band for just "groovin'". If you want to try something new that sounds totally different from anything else you have ever heard go check out Portishead.
|
Beth Gibbons came out with an album last year in the UK called "Out of Season." It's pretty good. More mellow and acoustic, but still with some trademark Portishead vibe.
|
Portishead is indeed one of the best things out there for those who want to hear some great vocals and grooves. All of their albums are excellent and they display a great talent for remixes (re: "Glory Times" album and "Super Bon Bon" remix, originally by Soul Coughing).

i love portishead.
wow, 3 fans! this is more than i have ever seen! |
I dont know many people that know about Portishead
|
I love Portishead! I was just listening to "Glory Box" earlier. They get a decent amount of play on the college station here. They're great driving music.

Portishead was a household name where I was in '94. I still break out Dummy every once in a while. Classic |
They truly rule, Loved live in NY.
|
I love Portishead. Have seen them live a few times, great shows.
|
I really like their music, but I need a new album...any word if they will ever get together again?
2 albums + B-sides and Live performances aren't enough. |
Live in NY was the best. No doubt, it was great.
Beths voice is totally hypnotic |
I'm pretty sure I read about a new album sometime this year. I can't remember where I saw it. But, it was great news to me, too.
|
Yeh I've got Portishead - Dummy, Portishead - Portishead, and Portishead - Live at the Roseland. Dummy and Live are the best. But I could take listening to any of them at almost any time. Its just great when you want to just relax and enjoy some tunes. Goes really well with an ice cold Budweiser too.

Portishead is one of my favorite groups. I think them and Massive Attack do what they do best. Listening to Half Day Closing from their self-titled album very loud while driving on the curvy highway downtown is a memory I'll never forget. And Massive Attack, I can't imagine liking Portishead and not Massive Attack, and vice-versa.
Wouln't it be cool to hang out with Beth Gibbons for a bit? You know you are lucky if you can pick up the phone and have a friendly conversation with Beth Gibbons. |
I heard Beth's solo album last week and came away a little disappointed.
Massive Attack, yep...same style of music, hard to like one and not the other. Also check out Tricky if you like Portishead. He did a song called "Hell is round the corner" with Portishead that really impressed me (you'll recognize the background). His "Blowback" album is really good as well. |
the Sneaker Pimps did an awsome song with Portishead too,
it's called Water if you want to check it out |

...time to find a copy of the original. |
Portishead is an amazing group.
Surprisingly you can use their music for more than a soundtrack for sex. Great for driving and i totally rebuilt a Jeep one summer and Dummy was the only cd i had in the garage. weird but it was great! |
Did any other fans try to find the film 'To Kill a Dead Man', from which Dummy is supposed to be the soundtrack.
No? Just me again, I'll get my coat... |
