Recommend a song...

Now I'm sure that every one of us goes out and purchases or otherwise obtains their music legally so here's my idea.

Reccomend a song from your collection that isn't necessicarily well known or hasn't yet been overexposed or killed by commercial radio... you get the idea. (No top 40 stuff, we can hear that crap by turning on the radio.) and a brief description of the song and/or why you like it.
And then we go out and *cough* legally *cough* obtain said song.
Simple enough? Good.

The Idea here is to get us all exposed to other artists and their songs that we otherwise might never have heard of. (Or uncommon B-sides of more popular artists, for that matter)
Feel free to post away your own recommendations. This is not intended to turn into "What's the wierdest, most 'out there' song you've got" thread. Just post what you like, that you think others may not be familar with.
---------------------

So to get this thing rolling here's the first recommendation:

"Your Call is Very Important To Us... Please Hold" by Sparks off the album "Lil Beethoven" -
An interesting concept, sort of symphonic, hypnotic, trance-ish, pulls you in with the first listen.

Blue Man Group, album "The Complex". Very rhythmic, but with guest vocalists on about half the tracks to keep it from sounding too much the same.

This might be a bit obscure (but, that is the point I guess) because even here in Europe they only have cult followers:

Sigur Ros , the Album Ágeatis byrjun.

Nice for in the bedroom!

i agree with beatbox, everyone should check out sigur ros. by the way beatbox, they are pretty big in north america, just touring on a few dates with bjork and being in the soundtrack to vanilla sky. Great music.

heres four:

neutral milk hotel: two headed boy

My favorite cut on Bob Seger's "Live Bullet" is "Bo Diddley"

I don't believe a band has ever sounded better live than in that song. Find it if you can.

Good suggestions so far everyone.

Da Vinci's Notebook - "Title Of The Song"

On the surface it sounds like any other typical boy band ballad, but pay attention to the words, and it becomes a complete mockery of said stereotypes.

I recommend Dream Theater - A Change Seasons.
Absolutely awesome, lasts over 20 minutes, more musical extravaganza than you can shake a stick at.

John Petrucci = god on a guitar.

Dream Theater - The Glass Prison is also great, if you don't have the patience to listen for 20 minutes straight

Almost anything by James is great, but Laid is probably the best one to reccomend.

Tough to narrow it down to just one song, but "Starfish" by Sister Hazel is simply one of my favorite songs.

I recommend to all of you who like good rock to check out the Tragically Hip.

For something mellow, check out The Tragically Hip - Grace, Too

For something a little more rockin, check out The Tragically Hip - Poets

Nobody has a sound like they do, and the singer, Gord Downie, is makes some of the best lyrics I've ever heard.

I guess you could their music is more "mature", which is true, but as long as you like good music, you should enjoy them.

please everyone check out this band. they played a show last night here in phoenix and it was the best show i have been to of any genre (been to over 100 the past 4 years). its good ska music, but is hugely influenced by reggae and rocksteady. they've been around 12 years and are out of new york. the talent they have is just astounding. excellent music to drive to, relax to, anything to.

"The Drinking Song" by Moxy Früvous

About a friend who dies from alcohol poisioning.
Melancholy undertones mixed with longful reminiscing.

A good, standing and swaying, and singing along with your drunk buddies at closing time song
