Muse - Absolution
This one came out recently (late september), anyone else got it? or a fan of muse? i've also got origin of symmetry which is another tight album.
Absolution is a bit more innovative for me and i am finding myself liking it more and more each time i hear it. They kinda sound like Radiohead in their Ok Computer days, although i don't really want to hear from anyone about them ripping Radiohead off or anything. key songs atm Stockholm Syndrome Butterfiles and Hurricanes Time is running out sing for absolution hysteria if you like any of them, check out their other stuff. Pretty cool ![]() |

Yeah, this new album rocks. Definitely their best work yet and the best album I've heard all year. I was gonna start a new thread, but found this one buried.
Sure, they've been accused of being Radiohead clones, but so has every other good band from England. And if you're gonna be compared to any band, Radiohead is a good band to be compared to. I like the direction Muse is moving in. The songs are innovative but still very accessible (unlike some of Radiohead's latest work). Matt Bellamy's voice is amazing and his lyrics are very meaningful and more politically charged than before. My favorite songs are Stockholm Syndrome, TSP, Butterflies and Hurricanes, and Thoughts of a Dying Atheist. If you like Radiohead or just good intelligent rock music in general, you should definitely check out this album. |

I also was going to start a new thread about these guys but found this one...
I love this album. I never really was a big Radiohead fan, I never even really listened to that kind of music. I'm an Incubus, Staind, and Pearl Jam kind of guy. However, I think Absolution is the best album I've bought in months. It gets better every time I listen to it and consider myself a big fan, but only of the album. I want to know if their older albums are worth getting. I see from the above posts that Absolution is a new direction of sorts for Muse, so I'm not sure. Advice or recommendations?? |

I prefer Origin of Symmetry (which I consider their only 100% consistent album and their best), but Absolution is definitely worthwhile and much better than Showbiz. The lyrics can be on the weak side sometimes (Apocalypse Please, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist), and there's some unremarkable songs in the 2nd half (Blackout, Endlessly), but otherwise it's a very good listen. My favorite's probably "Stockholm Syndrome", with "Butterflies and Hurricanes" a close second.
And as you can see, I love the cover art.

I like Muse, they're a good band. I've got both Absolution and Origin of Symmetry but have yet to have listened to Showbiz, but I like Origin of Symmetry much more than Absolution. For anyone who hasn't heard of Muse, a friend of mine has described them to be a more aggressive Radiohead.
