Damien Rice just performed on Leno

Wish I had recorded it. Good performance. He did Volcano...did it a little different than the regular version he kinda rocked it out a little toward the end but it still sounded pretty awesome. Gotta get this CD.

I fucking love Damien Rice... in case you didn't know he won the Shortlist Award recently, which is very very prestigious, and against some stiff competition too: Sigur Ros, Interpol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Streets, Cody ChesnuTT, the Black Keys, Bright Eyes (who I personally think should have won but I like Rice's winning as well), Floetry, and Cat Power.

His album O is incredible. Everyone in the world should buy it right this second.

I've heard good things about Bright Eyes ya think ya could link me to some of their work so I could hear it? Any idea what I should expect. Thats awesome he won that. What band was he in before he went solo? I hear Damien was in a band a while back (coulda been 2 I dunno) and they said there was a harder rock sound to it. Something with a "P" I believe

Pretty good stuff man from Going For The Gold on they got better n better. I personally don't think they're as good as Damien myself but still not bad at all. Kinda reminds me a like Counting Crows meets Interpol or something like that. I'll keep my eye on em they're stuff is pretty mellow eh? Well thanx for the link unlike a lot of other bands I can see why people would like these guys...by most people standards they may not have the best voices in the world but you can at least hear he emotion in their voices and creativity in their lyrics. I respect and commend that.

Yeah they are pretty light... but the lead singer's side project is decidedly heavier and more punk-y... they're called Desparecidos and you can also find their stuff at http://www.saddle-creek.com

Oh and about that award:

Quote:
October 7, 2003

Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice won the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize for Artistic Achievement on Sunday night for his breakthrough "O" CD, featuring the current hit "Volcano." Rice landed the prize, voted on by a panel of performers and music industry insiders, from a slate of 10 finalists - The Black Keys, Bright Eyes, Cat Power, Cody Chesnutt, Floetry, Interpol, Sigur Ros, The Streets, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Albums released between July 1, 2002 and June 30 were eligible for the award, which has gone to Sigur Ros and The Neptunes in the past two years. The Shortlist Prize is designed to help the listmakers - which this year included Coldplay's Chris Martin, Erykah Badu, The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, directors Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe, Tori Amos and Tom Waits - let music fans know about left-of-center acts that deserve mainstream notice. All of the finalists except Sigur Ros and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs performed at a special Shortlist concert, which will be aired on MTV2 starting Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Yeah they probably would have... but I'm pretty confident the Streets must've put on an excellent show (Especially if they performed 'Don't Mug Yourself').

Yeah they have a unique style. Similar to some Australian hip-hop I've heard. I guess it goes with having to work the vocals with an accent. It's pretty fresh.
