Are you using Windows? If so:
  • double click on the Volume (speaker) icon in your system tray
  • go to Options -> Preferences.
  • select Adjust volume for Recording
  • click Ok
  • select "Stereo Mix", or "What You Hear"
  • run Sound Recorder (Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment)
  • play the video file in your Media Player
  • switch to Sound Recorder, and press Record when you get to the bit you want to record
  • press Stop when you're done
  • play it back to ensure you've captured the bit you want
  • save the audio file
  • upload it here for us to listen to

You might have to convert the file to mp3, you can use iTunes or bladeenc (http://www.mp3-converter.com/encoders/bladeenc.htm)

I hope this works. Every 60 seconds, I had to quickly press record again, so the transition between each minute might be a bit rough.

Oh - this got moved to here. I was going to say, parahy: that music sounds like reggaeton to me - although I'm not positive, and I can't id the actual artist.

It's slow and mournful and the notable bit happens when a soloist breaks out from the harmonies to hit this really high note. He holds it for a few beats, then steps down chromatically before rapidly descending back down to the range of the chorus. He repeats that bit a few times and it's what makes the song.

I've heard it more than once and don't believe it's obscure. Any guesses?

Found it!

It's a top ten Vatican hit called Miserere mei, Deus by Gregorio Allegri:

Now I'm looking for a pop song that's maybe a year old with the chorus "Don't break my heart." The singer is a woman with a laid-back Feist/KT Tunstall sort of voice (it's neither).

In the chorus, she breaks up the word Heart into a peppy syncopated rythem. Here's some clumsy alliteration:

"Don't break my har, huh huh har, huh huh hea, huh huh har-rr-arrt. Don't break my hear!"

I seem to remember that the video featured the singer bicycling through a park as she sang.

Any help?

Okay, thanks to a friend of mine and none of you slack-asses, I got the song name.

It's Fidelity by Regina Spektore

"Pretty bad"? What did you use, a wax cylinder?

I'm guessing that was instrumental, or are the lyrics just obscured? I can't even figure out what instruments are playing...

mikevincent 08-07-2008 07:10 AM

i'm really sorry about the quality...it's an acoustic guitar instrumental.

Have you tried to contact the radio station? If you remember what time the song was being played they should have a playlist.

mikevincent 08-08-2008 07:09 AM

I tried that...didn't find any playlist

Help: Who can name the song this clip is from

(Hint: it probably has a man's name in the title)

http://http://www.mentalfloss.com/bl...hives/17832/4/

The rest were pretty easy, so I suspect this is, too, if you happen to know the genre (which I don't).

Am happy to share any other answers I have from this or other days this week so far

Link was malformed: should be mental_floss Blog » How Did You Know? - {day 2}. But I've never heard it.

Still looking for this one:

I'm not referring to the Rolling Stones this time. :-)

I've been trying in vain to find anything about a tune who's lyrics are nothing but a repetative rendition of the phrase, 'don't stop'. I remember hearing five or maybe six 'don't stops' in succsession along with single or other mutiple 'don't stops' throughout the tune. The last time I actually heard this tune was in 1987 so I'm not even able to hum a few bars of it for you. :-) But, I'll know it if I hear it again. It's possible that the vocalist was someone named Jimmy Scott but Im not positive about that so don't let that name limit your helpfulness. I'll be forever indebted to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

TIA

The only song I can think of with "Don't stop" in it is "Don't stop me now" by Queen. Based on your question I'd guess that not what you're looking for.

Stone 11-28-2008 04:53 AM

Thanks, really, but 'don't stop' are the only two words in the entire song. They are repeated rapidly at points in the song but, alas, they are there alone. :-)

Well, I have a couple.
First, I have a song but it is constantly mistagged on P2P, last.fm. youtube and basically the entire internet. I am trying to figure out who it is actually by.
It is a happy hardcore remix of the Tetris theme, most notable is the first line of the song, spoken by a computer text to sound program saying "let's play some tetris, mother fucker". It also has a repeating line of "can ya feel it, ha" and near the end it says something like "one for your trouble, two for your time" ... I honestly cant understand it. At any rate, there are a thousand youtube videos with it... here is one for an example: It is commonly credited to either DJ Rush or DJ Venom.
Running it through MusicBrainz Picard also returns a hit on DJ Venom, but then I found that the track time had been changed by a careless user, and that the track is actually only 1:30, while the track I have is 5:41. In addition to that, the CD is actually a DJ mix by DJ Venom, not his original works. Discog points out that the song on the album is actually by DJ Raw Cut. The album can be previewed here: DJ Venom Straight Bangin' CD and the song on the album does sound very similar. Then I downloaded DJ Raw Cut - Tetris 98 from another place and it was totally wrong.
I am just going to stop talking about this now, because the more I look the more people this song could be by. Does anyone actually know already or anything?

The other song I do not have and cannot find anymore. I used to listen to it when I was like 15, it was called something like "When DK was still a BG" DK - Donkey Kong BG - Bad Guy ... or sometimes it was called something with "Captain N" in the title.
It is a similar style remix of Mario music and had the "star power" (I'm wondering, it may have been the hammer from DK music actually) music incorperated into it. It also may have had some backwards parts AND possibly a part where you hear the pause button sounds and the music stops.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can anyone identify this piano piece please? And maybe some composers who play it well. Thanks.

Not originally for piano.

Bach: Minuet for Harpsichord in G major, BWV Anh. 114

You might find it on piano if you search. As for one pianist/harpsichordist over another I haven't got a clue.

BTW, the composer is Bach. There is only one composer (for this piece). The people who play it might also be composers of their own music ... but most likely they are not.

I guess this thread got unpinned, took me a while to find it.

I need to locate a version of a Christmas song. It is popular enough to get airplay during the Christmas season.

It is an instrumental version of "Deck the Hall"*, and sounds like it might be Moog-based. Certainly synthesizer.

There are two things about this version which I can point to in order to narrow it down:

(1) There are long holds between each line of the song. As I said, it is instrumental, but if there were words, it would go "(1)Deck the (2)hall with (3)boughs of (1)holly (1, 2, 3, 4) (1)Fa la la la (2)la, la (3)la la (4)la (1, 2, 3, 4)"

(2) They flat the second-to-last-"la".

Can anyone help me?

---
* Note: "Deck the Halls" is incorrect. There is only one hall being decorated.
