A Perfect Circle - The Noose
I know alot of you havn't heard the new CD yet. But i need your opinion. i personally think that THE HOOSE by APC is about or directed and George Dubya. he talks about paying amends to the lives he's lost, I.E. various terriorist attacks not to mention 911. But also maynard talks about "with heavens help" and not to mention the HALO, but this could very well relate to DUBYA's connection to the church in these times of war.
or you could completely look at is a Christ thing. We all know how Maynard loves to show his atheism at least once in an album. could the "amends to the dead" be towards martyrs and those killed in incidents such as the crusades. just wanna know what you guys think. |
Personally, I think relating it to the President is a stretch. Even though I'm pretty sure Maynard doesn't like the President, he's never really done any political songs.
I think it makes more sense in reference to Jesus or some angelic figure. "not to pull your halo down, around your neck and tug you off your cloud." Its almost like a reverse-Christmas Carol plot, with a human being getting the chance to question God. The lyrics are almost like the conversation you would have with Jesus if you had the chance. "I'm more than just a little curious how you're planning to go about making your amends...to the dead." No matter how you interpret it, this song is the best on the record and one of the best i've heard from anyone, anytime. |
Listening to this song for the first time as I opened this thread (scary!).
I'm loving this album, seems a bit more I dunno is "indie" the right word ? Some parts sound like Mogwai or Interpol. |
Hmm, I've listened to this song over and. Its one of my favorites on the album. I dont think its refering to Bush. I do agree on the angelic part. Its got me wondering what dead. Is this angelic person with a halo responsible for the dead?
"With your halo slippin down.....your halo slippin down...." |
Maynard has said before that he is not an atheist. Definitly not a Christian, and opposed to organized religion, but I would not call him atheist by a longshot.
|
yeah i didn't mean to call him an atheist. but if you listen to Pet, Maynard does look upon the world and government as keeping people ignorant to whats happening. maybe his lyrics are venturing into new ground...just something to think about.

After listening to the song, I don't think the song is directed at one paticular (sp?) person. My thought is that it is about someone (the narrator of the song) looking back on a friend and all the wrong things he's done and seeing him reborn and starting anew, but wonders how he plans to forgive and fix his mistakes when everybody he's hurt is already dead (literally or metphor). That's just a wild guess though.
