LIVE!
Ok, looked around and didn't see a thread on them...
anyway, a friend of mine just loaned me some of his CDs and one of them was Birds of Prey, by Live. I hadn't heard any of their stuff before, but I am really enjoying this. They aren't exactly as hard as I generally prefer, but I really like the guitar work, and the vocal harmony is...sweet. do these guys have more material out there? is it as good as this disc seems? and as a expected side note: are they any good live? < g> |
FAbulous Live. Ed Kowalcyk has a fantastic voice and he sounds great live. I've seen them twice and both times they put on a great show, and I mean the whole show. Not only did they sound good, but the interaction with the crowd was there and they really seemed to be enjoying themselves.
They are not a band I think of when I consider my favorite groups, but I have all of their albums and like most of thier songs (except I was disappointed with Secret Samadhi). If you've listened to TOp 40 or Alternative or Active Rock stations in the past few years you've probably heard quite a few of their songs. Their other albums are with what I think are the best songs: Mental Jewelry Pain Lies On The Riverside Operation Spirit Throwing Copper (The album that made them popular) Selling The Drama I Alone Lightning Crashes Shit Towne White, Discussion The Dam At Otter Creek A couple of other good songs that I can't remember Secret Samadhi Lakini's Juice V Pretty Much the whole album is great Birds of Pray Much like V, the whole album is pretty good. |

Asta!! |
i'd really like to see them live sometime. ed has an amazing voice. ever notice how a lot of their songs has a water theme going on? i wonder if they're religious, or what religion they are. it's good stuff nonetheless.

I saw Live live on their Secret Samadhi tour, fantastic stuff, Ed really knows how to perform to expectations. They're not the best live act I've ever seen but are definately up there.

Yeah there really good live. I saw them after Throwing Copper came out. Was well worth it

The singer of Live sings a song on the Talking Heads album "No Talking Just Head" which has guest vocalists in place of David Byrne. Jerry Harrison, the Talking Heads guitarist, produced "Throwing Copper".
Anyway, it's a good song, kinda funky sounding. The whole "No Talking Just Head" album is great... especially the first song "Damage I've Done" sung by Johnette Napolitano, who is the singer/bassist of Concrete Blonde. I saw Live with Sponge opening for them back in like 1994 or 95. I remember it to be a terrific show. |
I used to listen to Live when I was like 12.
The music's ok, but their lyrics are the for the most part the lousiest, most pretentious crap I've ever heard. They're worse than Emerson Lake & Palmer, which is really saying something. |
Their lyrics are extremely comedic which is one of the reasons why I liked them. I hated their last few of albums, Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi still rock though.
|
i am similar to Mr Deflock, didn't like their last few albums too much, more so secret samadhi and throwing copper. i went to thier concert in 2000 which was pretty tight, but sugar ray (is that his name???) was supporting and it ruined the concert a bit.
Cool band though. |
