I have heard coldplay live on two different occasions. Both times, the singer couldn't hold a note for shit. He doesn't sing on key, and he wails around like he is about to start crying.
I use the term singer pretty loosely for anyone that can actually sing to a song ON KEY. The coldplay dude sounds like a cat in heat. If you really need me to give you a live of musicians with talent, I can do that for you. I have listed my criteria above. Quote:

First of all, I don't like Linkin Park, but I did see them live, and I can say that the lead's voice does hold up in concert. Out of all of the bands there, and there were quite a few that are "top" bands, they put on one of the best shows.
Moving on: I don't get emo. Any of it. I can see that some of those guys are talented, but it all sounds exactly the same. |

"Everybody goes to Hollywood, They want to make it in the neighbourhood" I know shes a legend & all that but Ill never listen. EMINEM. In the immortal words of Public Enemy: "Don't believe the hype" NELLY. "Even when I'm with my Boo, Im crazy over you" Someone, please, tell me what a boo is" THis guy is regurgitating the same shit I didnt like five years ago, except this time hes got a plaster under his eye! I will not be running to my local record store. And then some... Bon Jovi Placebo Britney The Spice Girls Shola Ama Anything associated with Puff Daddy Missy Elliot The Lighthouse Family Seal Lopez Tiesto Craig David Coldplay ICP & Anything On MTV

wow.
so i guess my answer here is pretty much against most internet peoples choice in music. but you asked the question, so donīt flame. i donīt get punk, heavy metal, ska, shouty screamy death metal and gangsta rap. sorry, but i just cannot understand the attraction. so, to answer the question; which bands donīt i get... well iīll have to start with bands such as Metallica, Tool, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, Korn, all ska/punk bands and most rappers.... oh, and i also cannot fathom the attraction of manufactured, talentless boy bands.

wow, I can't believe so many people are down on Radiohead. I think the main reason is that so much of their stuff is so off-stream, it's hard to get right into it. i would suggest radiohead - Idioteque, as a jumping off point. Try listening to it at least twice in its entirety, and then look at the lyrics. The song haunts me in my sleep, hope it does the same for you!

I try very hard to keep in mind that for every band I utterly dislike, there's someone who genuinely loves them.
Even having said that, I still honestly cannot understand the appeal of the following (and this is NOT necessarily a reflection of their talent quotient): Avril Lavigne Limp Bizkit (and, by the way, what the f*** is a limp bizkit?) Britney and anything/anyone associated with her dynasty Backstreet Boys/NSYNC (can't honestly tell the difference, even though I've been told many times that there IS one) Jennifer Lopez Bruce Springsteen (Never understood BS, I suppose) 99 3/4 percent of country and rap music

I'm no Dave Matthews Band fan, but somone said they couldn't play!? As a drummer, I can say Carter Beauford is a fucking MANIAC behind the kit.
Some bands I don't "get..." BJORK - word. I think that she just mumbles and squeals. Her attraction is her "oh so artsy" schtick that people just can't resist. Same with Tori Amos, sans weirdness, plus melodrama. WHITE STRIPES - Rolling Stone calls Jack White the 17th Greatest Guitar player of all time. Better than Pete Townshend... the music boring and repetitive, and again, I just can't stand their schtick. I miss guys in T-Shirts and jeans pouring out music. Now you can't make music without selling a style along with it. |

I am sorry, butI think that the white stripes kick ass. What I respects is that their music does not sound like everyone else's, and the music feels like real garage rock. To me, their sound is raw and hard-edged, and not over produced. I like his guitar playing, and I like his lyrics. His voice is no good, but it is rock and I can sing along with it. Bruce Springsteen has had a couple of good songs, so I can't knock him. Also, people have done some good covers of his stuff. I just like Linkin Park. Of all the screamy rap-metal acts, they work for me. I don't think they are great, but they are ok for the radio. Limp bizkit sucks ass, Avril Lavigne can eat my ass, much of rap is repetitive, and Metallica ruled for 15 years, but they have finally started to sound like other bands. Though St. Anger kicks ass as a song.

I will raise my hand as a radiohead fan here just to kinda even out the hating. I'm am completely understanding when people don't like Radiohead, I acctually like it cause I get to be pretentious then. But back to the point I have a many friends who like the new-wave, pop-punk, power pop, punk etc.. scene. They take it so seriously, and it depresses me that their musical tastes are so poor or unrefined, yet they think that this music represents some kind of rebellion. But no kid is accountable for his/her musical tastes until they are at leat 15, at least that's what I say.

Blink 182
Saw them on Letterman one night - the singer can't carry a tune, and the guitar player knew 2 chords - tops. I guess the drummer was O.K. Those guys must spend years in the studio getting a track down.

A lot of these new "punk" bands and especially Linkin Park. I honestly don't understand how you can be good when you scream your lyrics at the top of your lungs...

Dave Matthews. i mean, he has a couple good songs, and i'll admit that as musicians, they're quite talented. but being able to play well doesn't mean you can write them well, a lot of the stuff ends up sounding like pompous drivel, trying to show off what they can do, instead of creating something aesthetically pleasing.

All this comes down to is what sounds good to a particular person,
some people like songs that "fun" (pop garbage), others like songs that remind you why you should kill yourself (Radiohead or other artsy bands), there are those that think more music should be about killing your neighbors' cat and pooping on it (slipknot or icp), and there's the people that need something that would make them feel tougher listening (fitty cent) i seriously listen to everything, and everything has its place and is for somebody, but there are things that i don't enjoy as much as others, i really enjoy just a couple bands enough to buy their cds, i've been to a ton of concerts featuring pretty much every type of band and music out there, so i've seen most of everything and the way the music interacts with the people here is my quick guide to music i like, i don't like anything that in 10-20 years will sound like 80's music does today, just think about it like that once i don't really like bands that don't play instruments well (there's nothing wrong with just singers if they portray themselves that way), i don't really like electronic crap, or heavy distortion, anyone can do that i don't like when bands are political, just play f-ing music i don't like over the top cheerleader crap music, remember life can suck sometimes i don't like when a band just plays depressing songs, try releasing a second album once your life doesn't suck anymore and see how it plays i listen to music to pass the time w/o killing anymore people than i like good singing voices, but it doesn't have to be perfect as long as it is powerful in its delivery, i'm not a fan of whining i've tried listening to a lot and i still don't understand some bands, i've tried a lot of my friends really like radiohead, i can't stand it really way too dark for me, i figured out when i spent several months very depressed about life, that this type of shit did absolutely nothing for me i think they have become "too cool for school" (haha i can't believe i used that) sorry i can't really hear the talent there, poor singing, musically they are ok if they tried, but i think they rested on their "critically acclaimed" laurels, the critics don't know dick (the same type of critics that put the white stripe guy on the greatest guitar player list, what a joke) someone should tell springsteen that just because you write 10 minute songs and try to sound like dylan doesn't make a great songwriter, he has about 5 good songs, the rest sound the same if you want to talk about politics, run for office then you can be exposed as a know-nothing blabber mouth death metal with unintelligible lyrics i don't really get, only because it really does all sound the same i don't get why there are so many rappers that do sound the same as well, i like originality geez i'm running way to long with this and i could probably go on a lot longer

I'm a big Tool fan, but I can understand why a lot of people don't like them. Their music isn't always especially melodius, or even really music. Their concerts and videos are awesome though, which consist of performance art-like spectacles that remind me of what I heard about dada plays.
I really don't get: Radiohead: It's different, that doesn't make it good. And it's not especially different if everyone listens to it. I was a CS major in college. Everybody I ever worked with listened to them and Electronica. It got monotonous after awhile. White Stripes: What's the point of paying money for garage rock? Dave Matthews Band: Why does everyone refer to them as "Dave"? |

White Stripes. They're just a bad ripoff of crappy 60s pop (The Animals, etc. come to mind).
And while I'm on the topic...17th greatest guitar player ever, my ass! The fact that John Petrucci wasn't in that Rolling Stone list--let alone in the top 5--pretty much invalidates it. |
