Well now...10 mins ago I would have simply said, "I hate rap, it's not music, it sucks and I wish it would go away"! Interesting reading, opinions...perhaps I'm a bit more enlightened. Still not a fan but not quite as vehemently opposed to it now...which surprises me.

hehe, my friends and i joked one time that Rap evolved as such:

at the turn of the century, African Americans created Ragtime, which evolved into Jazz, both of which are wonderful kinds of music. The white folks promptly stole it for themselves.

So, they created Blues a bit later, in the 20's or so, and that eventually transitioned with country into rock, and was again promptly stolen by the white folks.

Now annoyed, the african americans created hip hop, fully acknowledging that it would again, be stolen by the white folks, and it was created with the sole intent of being so ridiculously stupid, that they could laugh at all the white folks who actually stole it or latched on to it.

and that's where they are now, rich, and secretly laughing at us.

;) No harm intended, i can appreciate some rap as artistry and music, but not all of it.

I used to listen to rap when i was younger. There are only a few good rappers. ones with originality and complicated lyrics. I hate rap that sounds the same, which today is, just about everything that comes out. Now i listen to rock. finally realized its just the far more superior genre of music, and now i just totally dispise rap. If it were up to me i would get rid of the whole genre of rap all together.

I'm sorry....I hate people like you. Eminem is NOT the only good rapper out there. Check out any number of the artists I've posted up in this thread. I'm sure you'll like them just as much if not more than you like Mr. Eminem. Matter of fact there is no reason what so ever why you shouldn't unless you're one of the gimmik Eminem fans who like him cause he makes songs about slitting his wrists, raping his mom, and killing his x-wife asside from throwing a diss track to every artist under the sun. Thats not what makes an emcee good and thats not what makes Eminem good either. Now I'm not saying you said thats why you like him but if it is the reason then I'd rather have you not listening to rap music at all. If that isn't the reason and you like him because he isn't like all the other bullshit rappers out there then I'm happy that you are looking for hip-hop with something more which is exactly what the underground hip-hop world gives you. All I'm asking is to give it a chance. I'd send you songs of some of the many artists I like but I can't right now because we d/l a new version of iTunes that doesn't want to work for some reason.

Rap is no different from any other genre, there is good rap and bad rap.
Unfortunately it seems that the music industry insists on marketing poor quality, and that hurts the enjoyment of the genre. This is no different from rock and pop though.
True talent you have to look for, away from MTW and marketig hype.
Without having checked it out myself, i would imagine K-Wise's list to be a good starting point ;)
