Your favorite guitar solo
I'll start it off with the excellent solo in Megadeth's Tornado of Souls off of Rust In Peace. You know the one!
|
Mine has to be Dave Gilmour on "Comfortably Numb", either solo, but the second one is somewhat better. The raw emotion derived from his playing style/sound is breath taking.
But thats just me. |
eruption. van halen(eddie)
its got it so many awesome parts, not just the epic tapped ending. how is it so cool? |
knopfler at the end of Sultans of Swing...
although when a certain radio station plays that song down here, they cut out the solo...bastards... |

Slash - November Rain
I've never really heard anything quite like it. Asta!! |
not guitar... but there's a great violin solo somewhere in the middle of 'black friday rule' by flogging molly..
... if you're into that of course... ..ok... carry on... i'll leave... |
I really like the guitar lines in the Gipsy Kings Hotel California (even though it is the whole song, not really a specific solo part).
Its just relaxing, but played with energy and intensity |
I second the votes for "Comfortably Numb" "Sultans of Swing" & "November Rain"
My votes are for: "Sweet Child O' Mine" - GnR "Who's Crying Now?" - Journey "Another Brick in the Wall, pt 2" - Pink Floyd "All Along the Watctower" - Jimi Eddie Van Halen's solo in "Beat it" |
Stairway to Heaven (live version on Song Remains the Same)
Vodoo Chile - Hendrix |
No More Tears - Ozzy
or Disposable Heroes - MetallicA |
Atreyu - Lip Gloss and Black
A hardcore band, but this solo is very captivating. listen to about hte last 2 mnutes of the song. |
metallica - to live is to die
also, metallica - orion also, ac/dc - back in black.... its just classic |
Too many to list some great ones already mentioned, but for somthing slightly more chilled I love the guitar in the Prince and the npg track Morning papers, and the Kate Bush classic Wuthering Heights. Slightly less well known but still some great guitar riffs at the start of the trcack I would go for Giant's I'm a believer.

the solo in "nothing came out" by the moldy peaches
|
My current favorite is Jimmy Page's (credited as S. Flavius Mercurius) guitar solo on "The Same Old Rock" a song on Roy Harper's StormCock album. Good stuff. Check it out if you like some good acoustic work.
|
I would have to cast my vote for both main solos in 'Fade To Black' by Hammett.
|
"Bridge of Sighs" by Robin Trower
Man that whole song is the best!! |
I'll second the vote for both solos in Comfortably numb. Gilmore has long been fluent on the instrument.

Yea November Rain..
One - Metallica is good too. |
The Needle Lies on Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche.
|
David Gilmour- Dogs or Comfortably Numb.
|
Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Lots of solos there.
Master of Puppets Short but sweet: RATM - Freedom |
What about Joe Satchriani Midnight, or anything off Surfing With the Aliens?
|
Probably Ozzy's No More Tears,
but Master of Puppets is close and there is just Something about Symphony of Destruction. |
My favorites are Joe Satriani's "Circles" and Steve Vai's "Sex and Religion." They're both just so cool and kick ass, and the guitars are just so hot and crisp to listen to.

Another incredible slash solo
in the LIVE ERA 1987-1993 guns n roses CD Nighttrain..it's the first track on the CD..slash has 2 incredible solo's in it, the first ones pretty short, the second one is a bit longer but amazing..... :p for those of you who have this CD and havn't caught this gem, I suggest giving the song a listen and listen to the solo's, I don't think he plays the same ones in the studio version |
actually heh another one of my favorite solo's, it's an acoustic one, and again pretty short... off of the same Gun's N Roses Album, on the song Patience....it starts with about 4 minutes in I think

Here's a few:
SRV's version of Little Wing Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing Cream - Crossroads Derek & The Dominos - Why does love have to be so sad? |
one more for All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix)
nothing beats that wah pedal |

Great Choice...Kirk is such an underrated Guitar GOD! |
It's simple, but the second solo in Comfortably Numb sends a chill up my spine every time.
Other votes: The start of Heart's Crazy on You Stairway to Heaven. Naturally. Gotta second the votes for November Rain, Sultans of Swing and Eruption Hotel California Layla. By Cream, not the Unplugged version Bohemian Rhapsody. Again, simple, but still great |
Last Imaginary Guitar Solo from Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage Pt. III

Also, Dickie Betts in Blue Skies. Greatest feel good jam I've ever heard. |
A lot of great ones on this list, but my favorite is the live version of "She-wolf" on Megadeth's "Rude Awakening" CD. Just awesome.
