Canadian music.
OK... I've seen an Aussie music thread so I decided to start a Canadian on... eh?
Personally, I think the best Canadian band right now are I Mother Earth. Thier last two albums have been amazing. Sam Roberts is also a great artist, I really think he has what it takes to make it huge. Anyone else??

Godspeed You! Black Emperor are probably the best... really, I haven't heard a lot of REALLY REALLY REALLY good bands out of Canada but maybe I'm not listening hard enough... or maybe it's because anything really good from Canada couldn't make up for some of the artists that they've produced that are the absolute SCOURGE of the EARTH... Celine Dion, Alanis, Avril, Simple Plan... UGH.
Voivod and Sloan are pretty good though...

I used to play "One More Astronaut" from I Mother Earth's "Scenery and Fish" constantly in high school. I still listen to Matthew Good Band's first three albums, and occasionally Tangiers.

Nobody mentioned The Odds?? (r.i.p.)
I thought they were the most amazing band going, but they never got the repect they deserved. I remember driving to Regina (shhhhhhhudder...) to see them live and there were only about 500 people at the cabaret, and this was during the tour for there final album...what was super cool was that Stephen Drake remembered me from a couple of previous shows (i love accessible bands that you can talk to after the show) and we hung out for a half hour while they tore down... every song was gold... |
