whoa. . . Porcupine Tree - w o w
i cannot possibly discribe this guy's work. imagine puting folk/celtic sounds with some bluegrass banjos and then put in hard rock and heavy metal. now try to visualize it without thinking it sounds horrible.
this group needs to be heard by anyone who likes more alternative (real alternative... no genre/strange musical blends. just check it out. its awesome stuff |

I fucking love Porcupine Tree... saw them live with Opeth about a month ago. Just mind-boggling. They make some of the most inventive, incredible music that I've ever heard... and their lead singer is just GENIUS when it comes to producing... he produced the latest Opeth album, and did a BRILLIANT job. They're really an incredible band, and it's a shame that they get so little recognition. They have a video of their latest album, In Absentia, but it only gets played on MTV2 on the "Extreme Rock" block which only happens 1 day a week at 2AM... It's an outstanding video, too (for the song Strip the Soul), better than most of the crap that DOES get played there. Also, the song is inexplicably censored on there, the word "Kill" being blanked out. What the point of that is is beyond me. It just annoys me that great bands like this are avoiding recognition while terrible, cliched, uninventive bands *COUGHLINKINPARKCOUGH* are getting so much attention all the time.
Ugh.

yes, porcupine tree are fucking amazing, conincidentally i am listening to In Absentia atm as well. Have been listening to it the last few weeks rather constantly
I am in the process of checking out stupid dream and their first album On The Sunday of life. More will soon follow. If the music industry made any sense, these guys should be at least half as popular as Radiohead, not detracting anything from Radiohead. Anyone, in the process of promoting some less familiar bands from London or from anywhere, just want to say Gomez and The Flaming Lips as well. Don't know how well anyone else knows them, but again more alternative bands who really can't be labeled as any particular genre ie progressive rock basically. for InAbsentia, "trains" and "collapse the light into the earth" are amazing songs and worth the purchase of the album alone, let alone all the other tight collaborations. |

I saw the video of Strip the Soul on Headbanger's Ball about 2 weeks ago and I've been hooked ever since. Very cool video and song. Very cool group, for that matter. I encourage anyone to check out their music at http://www.porcupinetree.com and go to the multimedia section.

Voyage 34, Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream, & In Absentina are my personal favorites. For some reason, I can't remember what got me hooked on them...
Those of you who want to check their early years should check out 'Stars Die'.
