for fans of REAL metal

hey, I have been looking lately for more good metal bands to listen to. By "metal" I mean Death Metal and Black Metal. I also enjoy Power Metal, Grind Core, and thrash. any suggestions.
Here's who I already listen to:
ShadowsFall
Dimmu Borgir
Opeth
Killswitch Engage
In Flames
Children of Bodom
Lamb of God
Motorhead (the original thrash band)
Edit: also...
Hatebreed
Fear Factory (al of their stuff, except i threw away digimortal)
Unearth

It's pretty limited, seeing as how I have little money for CD's.
Oh, and please don't say "Cradle of Filth". They are the Blink-182 of Black Metal. IMHO they suck, badly.

Amorphis - kinda death melodic, but started become more prog as they progressed
Dark Tranquility - Death metal, proficient
Emperor - Regarded as black metal gods
Celtic Frost - Helped start a few genres in their day

Ok I have to reccommend Divercia.

Its power-metallish, very melodic, but its got this strange insane twist to it that I can't really explain. They are practically unknown though.. the only reason I know em is caused they used to be known as Lost In Twilight, and had a bunch of their older MP3s on MP3.com (they are still there now, as far as I know). They later changed their name to Divercia and released their only album, Modus Operandi, which is several notches better than everything they did as Lost In Twilight. Anyhow, check em out...

EDIT:

Here's Divercia's MP3.com page:
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/321/...-_modus_o.html
and here's the one for Lost In Twilight (though all but one song were removed )
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/9/lost_in_twilight.html

hell of a coincidence... some of the most recent CD's i've bought were:

Killswitch Engage
Shadows Fall
Lamb of God
In Flames
Opeth

well, these following suggestions aren't exactly unknown bands, but maybe give them a listen if you've discounted them in the past:

pantera
megadeth
meshuggah

Go look up some Slayer CD's. Reigning in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss to name a couple. They fucking rule! If you love metal you'll probably like anything they ever made. They've been around for a long time.

I laugh whenever someone tries to alienate metal from its roots...

But anyways, In Flames is badass and they remind me of my favorite band Metallica.... did i just ruin somones day?

Entombed. Greatest band.. ever
(according to UBL.com they are the second greatest Death metal band, after Death)

Ten years ago, on my 10th birtday I got their third album Wolverine Blues and they've been my favorite band ever since.
They cannot make a bad album, Same difference is their worst album, but it still rocks.

A once local band, gone semi-mainstream, wont be very easy to find tho.

But thier name is "Shockwave"

they've got a very good metal sound to them, they have 3 cd's out, but i think only thier last one has been nationally produced.

Autohate, Domincon, and the one that'd be easier to find:
"Omega Supreme The Complete Collection 1996-2001"

The haunted "The Haunted made me do it" and "Live rounds in Tokyo"
and every Fear Factory albumn ever made. even the rerelease of "Soul of a new machine" called Concrete.

Oh, and atomic pinkie, please don't soil In Flames by comparing them to Metallica. In Flames are WAY more talented. Oh, and i know that you are going to try an flame me back fo this commentso let me add this: grow up.

I don't think I can really add anything that hasn't been added... a lot of the bands mentioned are just great.

I'd like to give a nod to Arch Enemy also, though... especially their Burning Bridges album. Kickass black-ish metal.

Most of the bands that I would have mentioned have already been mentioned...

Darkane's really good, they're a technical melodic/death metal band that just keeps getting better... I would check out their Insanity album or Expanding Senses... their first album was cool too, I forgot the name of it though. The name was something about rust... like Rusted Angel or something.

Gardenian is a really good swedish melodic/death metal band too, they kind of changed their style after they got rid of their backup singer though... They used to have death metal vocals with power metal sounding backup vocals, but they kicked out the power metal guy so now the death metal singer does the death vocals and the clean vocals, but I like the new sound better than the old sound. I would recommend checking out their album called "Sindustries", it was produced by Peter Tagtgren in the Abyss... if you don't know who or what that is, he's the singer of Hypocrisy and he's an awesome producer... some awesome albums have come out of the abyss thanks to Peter Tagtgren

Heh, the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack looks pretty cool. It will be weird to hear In Flames in a major (well, semi-major) motion picture, assuming they even have the song in the movie. Sometimes they just stick a bunch of songs in the ending credits just so they can stick them on a soundtrack CD...

start with emperor... it doesn't get any better than that.. try Strapping Young Lad... alot of the stuff has allready been mentioned... try Death... try Dark Tranquility.. if you are gonna get a Mesh disc.. get Chaosphere first... then get Destroy Erase Improve... try Nevermore.. I highly recommend Nevermore.. start with Politics of Ecstacy .. or Dead Heart In A Dead World... try Fear Factory.. .. but dont get the Digimortal disc.. start with one of their early ones...

here is a no fail list.

Emperor.. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk... if you like it.. get IX Equilibrium.. next.

Nevermore.. in the order I stated above.. also Dreaming Neon Black would be a good choice from them.. .. I would skip their new one until you are more familiar with them.

u said you have OPETH.. but you should own all of them.

Zyklon .. world ov worms .. would be another great one to pick up .. if you liked the Emperor stuff.

once u get those.. come back and ask me.. I will give ya a list of others.

=]

rock out with your cock out!

There have been mixed reactions to Emperor's "Prometheus" album, but damn... that whole album is a work of art. If I recommended an emperor album, it would definitely be Prometheus.

Lately I've been kind of drifting away from the really heavy stuff. I think I'm getting old.

I like to say im really into metal, but i havnt even heard of most of those bands!

Big fan of Slayer ever since i heard them play in a stadium about a block away from where i was at.

My drumming style has been tremendously(spel gud?) influenced by White Zombie's... crap, forgot the drummer's name in La Sexorcista.

I've actually completely lost track of the "underground metal" scene since I quit my old band. I used to know about all of the good obscure bands, but my connection to the whole music scene as pretty much been cut off, so I'm only aware until up about a year ago.

Now a lot of the bands that I like have become pretty popular (with good reason), and I'm called a poser by the "true" metal fans because the music I like isn't obscure enough. feh.
