Anyone here create their own music?
If so, what type and what gear do you use?
Do you read any web sites that are music related? If so, which?

Yes
I use actual guitars (bass, electric, acoustic) to create rhythms. I'm still looking for a good drum machine for the PC though. My main music site is http://www.harmony-central.com, which has an extensive set of forums with people who write and appreciate music (mainly guitars) |

I have sang with a few bands and play my axe like a crack head. I have a Gibson Epiphone Sg special, and just today I bought a Shure Sm58 Mic. I tend to play heavy music like acid bath and Dog Fashion Disco and sing just about anything I can sound good singing. I like all music except country, and thats just cause I was raised on it all my life. Cant say I go to many music sites, but I do buy most my gear thru musicians friend.

I have a degree in Music Production and Engineering from the Berklee College of Music...I work at a studio and use a Sony DMX-R100 and Nuendo on a DAW I built myself, plus a lot of other crap, to make my own music, and to help others make theirs.

I use elecrtic guitars (Jackson DKGMT and A Epiphone SG special) and run those through a Korg "Pandora's Box". Other than that I mainly play live.

I make trance, house, and breakbeats using a roland jp8000, roland mc505, emu xl7, and my turntables going into a delta 44 souncardcard and mixed on ntracks. I use rebirth a little but havent put it into any of my real tracks. I am currently working on getting flamenco into my music but I havent had that much fun merging the palos with dance music.

I play guitar & bass through a Line6 AX2. I also use ACID to loop drums down to a Korg digital 16 track. I also like Hammerhead for sequencing beats too.
Lately I've been trying to record decent drum sounds live - but its proving much harder than I orginally thought. I'll keep at it and see...

I play guitar and mess around with Sonar XL alot, I can't really sing so that limits what I can do! I like making weird Al type parodies of songs, using friends and co-workers as the subject:

I have an Alesis drum machine and a Fostex 4 track recorder. Bought 'em in '92. I've also used a Casio keyboard's rhythm presets for drum tracks. Usually do the drums first, then rhythm guitar then lead, then extra added weird noises such as keyboard set to harmonica or oboe or flute or something not-metal.
The only weird thing is that whenever I try to write a really heavy hard rock/metal thing it ends up sounding like country/western or folk or something. Anything but metal. It's actually easier for me to work with others, when it comes to music, than to try to come up with everything myself. When I do it all it sounds dry and boring, but when I've worked together with others' it actually ends up sounding like music. If anyone has any ideas on how to take music currently on cassettes and make them into computer files, feel free to pm me.

All you really need to do is take an input from your tape deck into the PC aux slot. You can then download (for free) goldwave or something like goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com/release.html). After that you just need to use goldwave to record the input from your tape deck.
If you need help, just let us know and we will help you out. Mortius

Spektr, thanks for the comments. It's a site I'm just trying to get up and running for people that love music.
It's very new and I'm still fixing it up so stick with us, it will get better. Submit information to the site, content is what we lack

Im a percussionist.
Recording good drum sounds is tuff if your using a computer mic, I get *decent* recordings from my computer mic that i bought at wal mart, it shouldnt be hard to get high quality drum sounds with a set of *real* mics. www.musiciansfriend.com is your friend If those mics dont work, return them and go to a studio. |
