Interpol fans?
So I've started listening to Turn on the Bright Lights, the debut album from Interpol, and I must say, its one of the best albums I own, and I've only been listening to it for about a week now.
They arent that big, and I've been listening to there stuff for a while now (downloaded "Stella was a diver and she was always down" about 6-10 months ago...so don't tell me I'm a late bloomer), but I finally bought the album. Great stuff. Anyone else here heard of them? Thoughts? If not, download "Untitled" or "Stella was a diver and she was always down" and just listen to the guitar riff change halfway through the song. "The New" is good too :) |
I love those guys. I've been listening to their stuff since last winter and I think that though they wear their influences on their sleeve (Joy Division for one), they sound original to me in a sea of crap bands out there.
I think they have new stuff coming out this year. Should be interesting to see if they can keep it up. |
I like them. They do the Joy Division thing better than Joy Division. And 'NYC' is classic, with the sparse but ridiculously effective lyrics. Another band to watch.

Been listening to Turn on the Bright Lights for some time now.
I agree that it is one of the best albums that I've heard in some time. I keep kicking myself for not seeing them when they were in town last year. |
NYC is one of my favorite songs. You may want to check and see if they are coming to your town. I've seen them once already, and it was fantastic, although I had to drive to Nebraska to do it. They are touring stateside in September.
http://www.interpolny.com/live.php have a good night. |
Definitley a refreshing change from other stuff i've heard recently.
|
I picked up Turn on the Bright Lights shortly after it came out upon the recommendation of a friend. I was and still am completely blown away. Totally different than anything out there right now. When I first heard them I thought "Euro Rock." I was surprised to look in the liner notes and see they were from the US. A very un-mainstream sound, they probably won't get too big, so hopefully they will stay true to their music.
|
I do like their music, but the tone of the lead singer's voice is a bit hard to get over.
...then again, it took me about a month to get used to Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw's voice and now they're my favorite band |
Love 'em...
I thought they had been around forever though...lol...Maybe it is because of the Joy Division sound coming through. |
Yeah, interpol is fucking tops. I hope they have a new album in the future.
|
Turn on the Bright Lights is a great album. But they have been recycling stuff like crazy lately. They need a new album soon.
|
I just recently got into them a LOT more.... the drumline on Obstacle 1 is just so damn addictive.... they're excellent.
|
Absolutely love them. Fave tracks: "Obstacle 1", "Hands Away" and especially "Roland". The latter is the one that made me by the album.
|
Very good band. Saw them in Montreal couple of months ago with The Stiils, good show. A little to much sticking to the album if you ask me and not enough improvisation on stage but still, the album is very good. High hopes for a future record.
