Winamp 2.x is a compact, stable, and not as much a resource hog as Winamp 3. Winamp 3 can run really slowly and steal resources when you are just trying to listen to music. So if you prize speed and efficiency, get 2.x. If you really don't care, and like all the new skins and mods, get Winamp 3. :)

ahhh finally, i love 2.x so much more, i guess im a regular m&m person, thanks for the post spleen.

Just wondering, anyone else here making the switch to .ogg's?
Time for an upgrade :D
2.x works with the SETi skin for windowsblinds, which I use, while 3 does not. So if you want the get all the functionality of the skin you have to use 2.x. That is why I have not upgraded yet.
If winamp 3 had all the features from 2.x and the new stuff from 3 I would use it. But it doesnt.
hmm i think im going to change over right now...from 3 to 2.91
I ran v3 for a while. Had a skin I really liked--very compact and great windowshade mode. But the slowness to load the program drove me nuts. So I switched back to 2.x and I'm not really missing v3 at all.
version 3 is pretty cool, but I've since gone back to v2. I'm glad you told us about the update!
v2 = J key

v3 sucked. I hated it when it was first released, so I went back to 2.x and stuck with it.
Also v3 decided to hijack all media files and make itself the default player for them all. :( |
Kick ass, it's about a new v2 came out. Thanks for the info.
They would have stopped work on the 2.x series long, long ago if 3.x was of sufficient quality. I like 2.x because it's clean, simple and stable.
Good to know cause Winamp 3 is so damn sucky
The only reason I liked w3 was becuase of a skin that had a sleep timer built into it, I thought that rocked. But w3 was huge, slow, and otherwise annoying. w2.x is king! If they came out with a skin for w2.x that had a sleep timer...I don't know what I'd do. Throw a party?
Long live winamp 2.x!!! winamp3 is too much of a memory hog...
Thanks for the heads up, just updated.
ogg is alright, but the lame mp3 encoder has improved greatly even over the past 6 months. encoding an mp3 at 192 cbr sounds exactly like a cd. with that in mind, there isn't much need for ogg in my music library
winamp3 sucks.... tried it for a while but couldn't stand the slowness so now i'm back with 2.xx
