At the Drive In
I'm sad that they're gone :( They were one of my favorite bands. I really really like Sparta and Mars Volta, but not as much as I liked AtDI...
How would you describe their music? Was it the blend of emo or punk that got to you? What is it that you miss about them?
it wasnt a blend of emo and punk! and i should i know i have a very very low tolerence for emo. You have to listen to them alot to really get into it, It took me forever to start to like them at all. Mars Voltas great, i dont really like Sparta that much though
Personally I HATED One Armed Scissor the first time I heard it... heard it again a couple months later and loved it, then got into their other stuff as well... and then found out that they'd split. Real shame. Sparta's pretty good, though... I've still yet to hear Mars Volta.

The Mars Volta definitley won the post AtDI battle of the bands. They have such a great, unique sound. Go check it out for free on Kazaa.
Weird of you guys to say that... I'm a much much bigger fan of Sparta even though I saw Mars Volta in concert...
At the Drive-In are listed as "experimental Post-punk" by the Fearless Records website (www.fearlessrecords.com) and in their catalogs. They were a great band. I own every ATDI record made, and I still think that their work as a group was better than their side projects, although I would have to say that I like Mars Volta better because I love Cedric's voice and Omar's guitar playing is so non-linear. As a guitar player myself, I love to listen to what Omar brings to the table and where he will go with basic chords. he is extremely inventive.

yeah atdi was sweet and sparta and mars volta are awsome too id say thier post punk or emo
AtDI are an amazing band. The Mars Volta are equally amazing, but i don't think Sparta have that.. pizazz the other 2 bands have. Still, they're all great bands.
I was a huge ATDI fan, but the Mars Volta cd completely blew me away. I got it the day it came out almost two months ago, and I'm still having obsession issues with it. It's SO fucking good. Sparta was a very half-assed attempt to capitalize on the established fan base of ATDI. The Mars Volta album is completely different then anything else out there. There's just so much to it.
I first got The Mars Volta about a month ago and love it dearly. Because of it, I decided to check out At the Drive In I like them as well. Not as much as The Mars Volta though.
EDIT: Just remembered that I have a quote from one of the At The Drive-In songs. |
I LOVE At the Drive In, and I have to say I actually enjoy the Mars Volta album(s) even more. They took the creativity that was somewhat surpressed in ATDI, and turned it into a masterpiece.
