radiohead..why so great?

ive listened to quite a variety of music in my lifetime, but the one band that completely makes my body go numb is radiohead. hail to the thief is an amzing cd. this band continues to amaze me how they are able to produce music with such originality and at the same time make the songs popular. does anyone else share the love for radiohead?

I've never been fully exposed to Radiohead but i keep hearing good things. Can you recommend a playlist or would you just say everything?

I must say that "Paranoid Android" is my favorite Radiohead track.

well there are many perfect gateway songs for new radiohead listeners, they include:

Just (for a older rock n roll style)

Fake Plastic Trees (an amazing sing along)

Paranoid Android

National Anthem (Kid A marks the change in the production of their songs)

Knives Out

Wolf at the Door (this ones from the new CD, which is so awesome)

radiohead offers so much, tom yorke really uses his vocals as an instrument. u cannot just listen to these songs to be familiar with radiohead, you need to listen to all the cds to know what i am talking aboot. well hope this helps!

i generally have the same feeling, and also for Tool. 2 of the best bands going around today, who are in the mainstream or more well known/regarded.

Although i don't really rate pablo honey too highly. I also dislike the song "creep", namely cause it is overplayed and one of the songs in which people often refer to them or know them by (also paranoid android and karma police, but those songs are a lot more enjoyable and profound)

i'd think OK computer is generally regarded to be their best album and also most accessible, perhaps equally with the bends though. However Kid A is my favourite album, although everything after pablo honey was very good and of a high standard. Get OK computer, i can't imagine too many poeple with an open mind disliking it.

i also like how you refer to yourself going numb. I am not sure if its the same, but i get goosebumps when music truely resonates within myself, and it happens quite often whilst listening to radiohead.

Radiohead is pretty damn good, i really enjoy listening to them, just got Hail to the Thief....pretty good stuff

There music is good because it offers a different and unique style....its genuine, one of the few groups that i like more than a few songs from.

radiohead is great because you never know quite what to expect from album to album--heck, from song to song! as soon as you think they can't come up with something else, they do. I must admit, I'm a bit of a traditionalist in my tastes... OK Computer and Kid A are the best albums by far. And Pablo Honey. Amnesiac was kind of a downturn, IMHO, but Hail to the Thief is really good.

I have to say that while I really like radiohead, and in fact own all their cds I don't feel that they are as wonderous and profound as most people seem to think they are. Don't get me wrong, I still get caught up everytime I listen to Fake Plastic Trees even though I've listen to it a thousand times, but they are not even close to my top ten or twenty.

By the way I do like Creep even if it was horribly overplayed.

Radiohead is awesome cause it's radiohead. Nobody really plays the same kind of music as them, and every track is a new experience. Their songs don't sort of run together in your head like those of other bands do.

Personally, I love them. I like that their sound changes so dramatically from album to album. I figure they've experimented so much that there should be at least one Radiohead song that sings to every person... I just happen to like them all. My favorites though are OK Computer and Kid A.

Radiohead takes me to a different place, more the music than the actual words. My favorite radiohead memory was last summer, some friends and I were speeding through New Mexico at about four in the morning, blaring Kid A. It was surreal, no one said a word the entire time.
In fact, that's the best description on why I like them.. Theyre like speeding through the desert at sunrise...

why so great?

maybe it's due to the fact that they steal so much from Aphex Twin with every album they do.

Radiohead is an awesome band who said 'fuck it' and did their thing and still do. I respect that highly.

Creep touches me, i relate to it and OK Computer is one of the best lps ever. it's fucking great. the bends was quite good. besides Creep i've never listened to Pablo Honey. and quite frankly... um. Kid A....... uh.. uh uh. i think peter did some crack or something or thought they were doing a soundtrack for the Atari 2400

anyhow........ my $.02

I heard somewhere that Tom Yorke wants to stop doing full length albums and just put out one ep a year every year that is so Radiohead like!

i was reading an article on them the other day. to sum it up it just said that radiohead became a number one band with the release of OK Computer. and that they were very worried that the release of a new cd would not live up to OK Computer. They were being held back musically because of this feeling. eventually they got through it and realized, to write good music you cant worry about what people are going to think of it, when you are writing it, because it will turn out to be something its not meant to be. i know how this is because im in a band too. with the release of hail to the thief they finally were playing music and being happy with what they had. You can definitely tell the musical genius put into each song.

both radiohead and tool are considered modern prog rock or progressive rock. which imo is one of the things, if not -the- thing, that makes them so great. it is the ability to constantly change and evolve your sound.. and experiment and stilll create quality music not confined by some genre.

Simply put, their music can range from chaotic, paranoid and schizophrenic to profoundly beautiful. No one builds a crescendo like they do (see: "Exit Music")

And the fact that they are super "produced" in the studio, and yet can translate that to a live concert, is amazing.
