Music you *can't* listen to.

I'm sort of weird...there are certain musical groups that I enjoy thoroughly...and yet...I can't listen to them, because of certain things they do to me, emotionally and mentally. One example is slipknot's self titled album...I can't listen to it while I'm driving. I become waaaayyy too prone to road rage. I figured that out when I got my fourth ticket in two years and realized that all four times I had been listening to slipknot at the time I got pulled over. So I don't listen to them in car anymore. Another example is Otep...I can't listen to them at all. Ever. The suffering in her voice gives strength to something inside me that I'd rather not ever have to deal with ever again. This part of me feeds on it...doesn't identify with it, but enjoys and wishes it were what had caused her suffering. For those that don't know, the lead singer is female, and was raped repeatedly when she was a young child. I don't like that part of me...and until I can find a way to handle it, I have to suppress it. Then there's Michael Jackson...I know, I know, it's awful, but no matter what mood I'm in, I can't listen to his "Dangerous" album, because it will make me cry like a little baby. And I don't mean the silent tears...but huge, shaking sobs.

Do any of you have similar experiences with bands? Or maybe different experiences, but still leading to a point where you just can't bring yourself to listening to the band anymore?

Man...... I used to love Lynyrd Skynyrd, and didn't mind Hootie-
But there's this dude at work that owns like 5 CD's and plays those two every fucking night! Simple Man by Skynyrd used to be one of my favorite songs... but now I can't stand it! I told him the other night that he was worse than my kids with Eminem and 50 cent. Over and Over and Over! I even tried to let him borrow a few of my CD's. I have a ton! Wouldn't you think a guy that loves Skynyrd would like Molly Hatchet or Allman Bros. or even Hank Williams Jr.? He won't even listen to them. I'm ready to take the bridge with this dude.

50 cent, Nelly, (insert wannabe thug rapper here). It's the whole attitude they have that just wears me out. Oh, and I don't enjoy the music.

I totally hear you about the slipknot thing. I get affected by the music I'm listening to when I drive, if it's a song I really like I unconsciously lean back in my seat and press harder on the gas pedal.

any of that manufactured boy/girlband / pop idol shite. whatever happened to bands having to make it on their own, through hard work, decent song writing and talent? it just disgusts me.

Pop...especially the crap that comes out of the UK...It amazes me, with all the quality rock that was born there, that the masses still adore useless schiesse like Blue, Holly Valance, Robbie Williams, Daniel Beddingfield, Christina Aguilara, Admiral Latrine...the list goes on and on and on....

Christian music (sorry God, your fans who make music don't appease me)

Slipknot / Mudvayne...I like alot of heavy rock, just not from these two.

Khia...God, "My Neck, My Back" is insanely craptacular.

Country music, straight for hours at a time.

Anything else I'm generally cool with.

Any rap song that babbles on and on about cars, money, girls, clothes, etc., and uses any of the following words more than once:

-Bub

-Bling

-Crystaahl

-Rims

-Gucci

-Mercedes

-Escalade

-Ice(d)

Music like that just fucking annoys me.

Also, most "rap-metal" is just insufferable... Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Korn, and the like... it all sucks.

Remixes of classical pieces (ie: Mozard, Bach, Beethoven, Wagner, etc.) done in pop/rock/electronica style. Hearing classical music perverted and disgraced in such a way makes me want to break some kneecaps!

Also I am really creeped out by those country music videos where what happens on the screen is EXACTLY what the lyrics are singing. Thank you, Mr.Obvious!

In the "Impractical Techno" dapartment, Happy Hardcore makes me want to scoop out my inner ear with an old wooden spoon. Actually I think this applies to at least a dozen more types of Techno, in general, whose names I probably don't even know. The more obscure the sub-genre, the more I long for release from this mortal coil...

I hesitate to say this, but I CAN'T STAND Stevie Nicks' voice. She sounds like a goat (especially on Landslide). I love Fleetwood Mac though, I really like their new album too. If you've heard the title track (Say You Will), you realize that I'm contradicting myself pretty badly. I guess I'm just torn. Help meeeee............

Okay, so you don't like One either? What about Unforgiven? No? There are actually a lot of songs that MTV has played from Metallica.

Yeah, people don't realize that Metallica had some great stuff actually released on video lately just because of all the St. Anger/Napster related hate.

It's stupid that people should abandon ALL of Metallica's music just becasue they don't like the recent stuff.

DAMN RIGHT. I like "conscious-rap" (Common, k-os) and old-school gangsta rap (Public Enemy, NWA, Snoop Dogg), cause the lyrics are actually GOOD, the music makes SENSE, and they don't need to rely on brightly polished cars and barely-clothed women getting champagne sprayed on them for "talent." Please.

I'd like to add Boxcar Racer to my list as well. They are quite possibly the most absolutely horrendous band in the history of music. Their music literally gives me a headache to listen to, it's just that bad. A lot of other pop-punk bands go right up there too... Good Charlotte, The Ataris, Mest, and others. What a load of crap.

Oh, and by the way, I hate folk-y Christian music, but I like Christian rock a lot of the time (Chevelle, Beautiful Mistake, Norma Jean).

Have you listened to any of the shit out there?
Women, cars, money, yay!
There is absolutely no talent involved, at least linkin park writes about someting other than getting drunk, high, and laid.

Funny you should mention Creed. I was traveling in Europe this month and finally found a live music club in Franfurt. I go in, happy to be in a loud music environment (I was on a staunchy business trip) and find: yup, a Creed cover band.

Needless to say, I'm not a big fan. Though I stayed through most of the set, it was pretty painful...
