What Band Would You Most Want People To Start Listening To?

Only one band, and please no bands who sell a million records, obviously they don't need help.

I've said it a trillion times, and I'll say it again:

-Glassjaw (melodic hardcore/screamo)

-The Apex Theory (versatile hardish rock)

-Lostprophets (screamo/"nu-metal"ish... but better than typical nu-metal)

-Snapcase (Incredibly intelligent melodic hardcore)

-Hot Water Music (Lively post-grunge)

sportsrule101 07-21-2003 10:23 AM

The Elms - think strokes, hives, vines
Apex theory - modern rock

Anthrax and Motörhead. Both seem to do okay, but they don't get the credit they deserve.

True 'dat.

I also think that Iron Maiden aren't recognized as much as they'd ought to be, in the States at least.

Charlatan 07-21-2003 12:55 PM

The Pixies... their first few albums are on my MP3 playlist all the time...

OH LOOK!!! JUST ONE BAND.

anyway, now that that is out of my system, I'm a big fan of Fleming and John. She does all the vocals, he plays... well all the instruments. Literally. On the album "The Way We Were", he is credited as playing all the instruments. :D

Hal Incandenza 07-21-2003 01:34 PM

Mecca Normal: only a singer and a guitarist, but they make gorgeous noise.

alkaiser 07-21-2003 02:18 PM

opeth!

i don't think they sell millions of records lol

Derwood 07-21-2003 02:26 PM

Reverend Horton Heat

nhx 07-21-2003 05:07 PM

Not so much a band, as one guy, but my choice is BT

Mr.Deflok 07-21-2003 06:21 PM

TYPE O NEGATIVE

Excellent choices, too bad Apex Theory broke up.

Damn you. They are a horrid live band.

crvrba 07-21-2003 07:09 PM

my pick is Dredg.

go listen to them. My best way of explaining them to someone is Tool meets Pink Floyd. www.dredg.com

goddfather40 07-21-2003 09:45 PM

Here's a few from me:

1. Thrice - they are getting huge now but they're new CD is fucking sick
2. Killswitch Engage - kind of like Pantera
3. Poison the Well - hardcore with periodic melodic interludes
4. Disco Biscuits - I can't describe these guys but they kind of like Phish, with a real "groovy" sound

zfleebin 07-21-2003 09:56 PM

Nhx: Hell yeah
I would say string cheese incident: They play a little bit of everything but do it very well

abacus 07-21-2003 10:31 PM

Radiohead... oh yeah, they sell millions...

Atmos. Slept on hip-hop that will blow your mind. Check out "Watching the skies"

I agree, the pixies are good.

sdkh 07-21-2003 10:41 PM

Cursive, Rilo Kiley or Engine Down. I know that's not one band but they're fucking great.

hawkeye 07-21-2003 10:53 PM

Gotta pick Saviour Machine here. Xian Orchesteral Gothic Rock.

TheClarkster 07-21-2003 11:24 PM

I was going to say the Pixies too. Good choice people.

Hell yeah! high five! Opeth are an amazing group of musicians. I have been playing guitar for 5 years now and can only dream of ever approaching these guys in pure talent.
Either them, or Lamb Of God.

Really? They are quite popular over here. Every wanna-be goth just screams their music everywhere...gets annoying, no offense.

As for me, I'd like Broken Social Scene to be better recognized. Great Canadian(never thought music could come from there :p) stuff.

Chamberdweller 07-22-2003 04:02 AM

Great responses keep it up! oh and you can post a few bands I was just trying to keep people from posting a million bands, because there are alot out there that don't get the credit they deserve.

Soda_BoB 07-22-2003 05:04 AM

My mates badn, but I don't know what they are called, they changed thir name a few times

OMFUG 07-22-2003 05:10 AM

Therapy? for one. Apollo 440 for another. And Spineshank for a third.

Ganguro 07-22-2003 06:14 AM

Come on folks.. simple instructions..
ONE BAND

I'd have to pick: Buffalo Daughter

kajagoogoo 07-22-2003 06:57 AM

widespread panic

slunk007 07-22-2003 09:23 AM

Right now, its the New Pornographers (I'd say they are pop-rock, not mainstream tho)

Honorable mention: Sigur Ros (for something completely different. Hear them in the Vanilla Sky soundtrack or in one of their two albums)
They make some of the most powerful music, but it ain't for everybody.

Technically, I picked one band...

Later it might be something else. That's whats so great about music. Times change and so do my tastes.

Ti6my 07-22-2003 11:19 AM

The Mars Volta!

GlassHouse420 07-22-2003 06:56 PM

porcupine tree and the flaming lips

rockzilla 07-22-2003 07:31 PM

I'll second The Flaming Lips.

hermpes 07-22-2003 07:53 PM

Bella Morte...cause they're hot...

348Dav 07-22-2003 08:19 PM

Pink Floyd

Sigur Ros also worked on a project called "mum"

I found some of their music quite enjoyable as well :)

bobby booby 07-22-2003 09:19 PM

as far as a band i would want, fischerspooner takes the top rank, for the time being ;)

they put out a great CD not too long ago that i'm quite impressed with

glytch 07-22-2003 09:24 PM

Not that they're a particularly amazing band right now, but I think RA might have the potential to be a very good band if they become more reknowned.
