Norah Jones

Can anyone suggest any music similar to Nora Jones? Ella Fittzgerald and other classic jazz artists are great but I kind of like the "newer" sound that Norah Jones has. Thanks!

Off the top of my head, Diana Krall. Jazz really isn't my thing but Diana has a lovely voice IMO.

I'd say Diana Krall as well. Harry Connick Jr is along that same route. I appriciate what he does but my favorite album is still the big band Red Light Blue Light.

Honesty I can't wait to hear more from Nora as not only is she fine as heck her voice is really incredible in my opinion!

Still can't go wrong with the immortal Jazz vocalists of late! To bad recording quality back then didn't do them justice!

is nina simone's sound too "old" for what you are looking for?

I totally agree with the Harry Connick vote - in particular, "To See You."

If you really like Norah's album, you owe it to yourself to check the back-catalog of her guitar player's solo releases. Jesse Harris is the name, Jesse Harris and the Ferdinandos is the band.
"The Secret Sun" has Norah guesting, so you'll have a tie back to her music as you branch out. =)
You can find original recordings of "I've Got to See You Again" on their CD "Crooked Lines" and while I don't want to burst anyone's Norah-bubble, "I Don't Know Why" first appeared on the Ferdinandos' eponymous debut. (sample: http://www.jesseharrismusic.com/audio/dont-know-why.mp3)

It's not the lush productions you hear on Norah's album, but it's some really heartfelt music and amazing songwriting.

If you're looking for instrumental jazz with that kind of feel, any of Joshua Redman's late-model recordings are all excellent. Moodswing is still my favorite...

Bic Runga has a beautiful voice. Definitely worth it to find her "Beautiful Collision" and "Drive" albums. But she really isn't that comparable to Norah Jones. Norah is more jazzy/bluesy than Bic will ever be. Bic Runga is more of a voice and a guitar.

Thanks for all of your input! I have some Harry Connick that I really enjoy, but I hadn't heard Diana Krall before. I really like her also now! I do like Bic Runga also although as meanspleen pointed out she has a little different flavour. Oh and I looked up Jesse Harris- Some more good stuff there!

I unfortunately don't have much to contribute to this thread. But, I did want to thank Fred181 for posting the question and for all of you who provided answers. I am certainly interested in others with her same style.
