Metallica sues over use of the E and F chord
This just in: Metallica is suing the Canadian band Unfaith for using the E and F chords together which is apparently duplicating Metallica's style and would confuse their fans.
From metallica's site: Quote:

I could justify every other Metallica lawsuit, but this is incredible.
You have to think that Lars is the puppet master (no pun intended) behind all of these lawsuits. I can't see Kirk or James giving half a shit about chords, hubcaps or Napster. |
these guys never fail to make me laugh nowadayz
|
hmm, ok false alarm, apparently its just a fancy prank. If you look at the URLs, while they may look exactly like MTV and Metallica they're actually hosted by scoopthis. still, wouldnt put it past them, and now metallica probably will sue.
|
Very funny spoof. I'm glad it's not true, though, because I like them a lot, notwithstanding some of the stupid things they do off stage.
|
Funny.
I didn't take it seriously, but it DID remind me of Fantasy Records who, after buying all of CCR's back catalog, sued John Fogerty over, "Old Man Down the Road," because it sounded too much like, "Run Through the Jungle." His own song. I remember him on the witness stand with a guitar and practice amp, defending himself... dumbest. lawsuit. ever. |
it's a joke. check the link in the article, it goes to www.snoopthis.com not to www.metallica.com
|
i hope anyone who believed this for a second feels pretty sheepish now... if they're going after bands for using E-F as part of a progression, then they might as well sue every band in the world.
|
... look, lars has sued any and everone he can. i believed it and was not shocked.
|
Lars is still a god damn drama queen.
|
I still think Lars should be shot for everything else he's done.
|
Oh man, that would be hilarious. Now Metallica is prolly going to sue scoopthis.com for libel or something equally as dumb.
|
wow, is this real, or is it a joke?
|
I know its a joke but I seriously wouldnt put it past those bastards. How about i sue Metallica for being so lame.
|
Nothing gets by Snopes.
|
fucking classic. heh
|
hehehe.. yeah i guess it was a gag.. but damn.. I didn't think twice in believing it.. .. so yes.. that is kinda sheepish.. but then again .. i would not put it past lars.. not for a second.
|
well, put yourself in their fucking shoes
IF i am famous, I have a certain name You use said name to boost your reputation and increase sales without notifying me or acknowleding me, using my name without my permission, when I have it copyrighted (bands copyright their band names) then you are in breach of said law. Take the perfume deal, they sent a cease and desist letter, the company ignored them. They sued to stop the miuse of their name. You people need to open your eyes to the real world. There are laws, if you break those laws, you get asked to stop (if they are nice) and if you do not comply, you get taken to court over it. Now, how many of you would like to be used to sell my product when you are famous? |
they have sold out in every other way so i dont see what the big deal is for them to have their name on a bottle. And if i were famous i wouldnt be a stupid prick about everything. Atomic Pinkie, would you defend them if they did try to sue over someone using the E and F chords on the guitar?
[sarcasm] LOL OMFG 'TALLICA INVENTED THE E AND F CHORDS ON THE GUITAR!!!1!!1!!1111!!!1111 THEY RULE SO MUCH![/sarcasm] |
No, because they never would. People get hurt by the fact that their favorite way of getting music was threatened. Now, whenever that band does ANYTHING that YOU deem to be ridiculous, you get your panties in a bunch and proclaim "Thats how stupid they are"
You OBVIOUSLY did not read my post very well. Learn to read then forget how to judge. |
you are right i do not know how to read, thanks for clearing that up. But wait, if i dont know how to read obviously i couldnt have read what you just posted. How am i doing it you ask? must be magic. yup magic must of done it.
BTW i hated metallica long before they did their little napster shit. That only added fuel to the fire. |
I remember seeing that in a Behind the Music type of program. Just the mear mention of Fogerty makes me want to throw some CCR in my car!

You know, I do have to agree with Pinkie.. a little, as much as I hate to agree with a raving metallica fan. I would like to, however, counter.
If one becomes famous, one should expect to be prayed upon. One should expect parasites to come crawling out of the woodwork to get a piece of the action. It's part of being famous and has been, for a long time, something that the famous could do nothing about. I don't necesarily agree that it is right however. Now the famous are able to hide behind copyright laws. Did the perfume company have a picture of James on the box saying 'BUY THIS SHIT'? Was Lars 'The Monkey' shown as enjoying the wares of the furniture company? No, not at all. In fact, the furniture company had had the name for over a decade, if I am not mistaken, before the lawsuit. A decade... back when Metallica was hardly the household name it is now, so one would likely be correct in saying that the owner of the furniture company wasn't likely trying to capitalize on Metallica's fame. Don't forget, they also sued an automotive aftermarket products company too. Something about a stearing wheel if I am not mistaken. If you were to sell a product using my band's name... whatever. If you were to sell a product using my bands name and our likeness to promote it, then you would have a size 13 stuffed up your arse. |
I am still amused by how manypeople whine because they have to break open their piggy banks to buy an album rather than get it for free--even if it is stealing...
Metallica Rules and they are coming after you!!! |
I have always bought my CD's, and am a big Metallica fan. Though after they said they were gonna "go to the houses of people with illegal mp3's and trash the computers" i decided never to buy one of their albums again...
Except for S&M of course |
i would love for them to come to my house and trash my computer, each one of them would get a baseball bat to the face as they walk in the door. if not that, a shotgun would do fine.
|
Such childish behavior, to use your own name.
Yawhateva. Good for you, now go suck your thumb. |
metallica is lame
|
Atomic Pinkie i am now suing you for the use of the name i have come to live by on these here Tilted Forums. And i was dead serious about the shotgun, they wouldnt come out of my house alive.
now back to sucking my thumb, you hypcitical little boy. |
Ouch, you stabbed me in the heart...ooh....the pain....*flops around*....i feel a sharp twang in my chest.....*flops around some more* aahahhahahhaahhaha.....
no |
Just par for the course with that band -- IMO it sucks.
|
I thought it was real for a second. Shows how much faith I have in them being decent human beings...
|
I think the whole thing is hilarious. :)
You guys have some funny posts as well. :) |
Fuck. Whether its a joke or not I think Metallica would do it. Damn morons.
|
I have 3 chords copyrighted.
|
That had me going, its sad how true this could have possibly been.
|
Stupidest - hoax - ever.
|
How many other Metallica fans out there would like to join me in taking Lars' ability to play the drums, somehow remove it from him, and place it into a decent human being's body? We all know that Lars is one of the best damn drums players, but he's a fucking prick. But that aside, I personally think that Metallica is a great band, and that they deserve some respect people, don't judge the band by what they do outside of the studio, judge 'em by what they do inside the studio (or on stage). I didn't think that Metallica as a group would do this, but the Lars by himself would, and then James and Kirk would commence stomping on his ass for being an idiot. Yet, it was funny.
|
I think the sad thing about all of this is that so many people actually *believed* that metallica would sue on the basis of that chord progression. I think that, in itself shows what a farce the band has become.
sad, really. |
Claim: Heavy metal band Metallica is suing the group Unfaith over their use of the E and F chords.
Status: False. Example: MONTREAL - Metallica are taking legal action against independant Canadian rock band Unfaith over what they feel is unsanctioned usage of two chords the band has been using since 1982: E and F. Origins: Metallica may be derided by some fans as an aggressively litigious group, having once sued the Napster file-sharing service over the unauthorized distribution of their copyright-protected music, but they haven't gone so far as to sue another band over the use of the E and F chords. The "Metallica Sue Canadian Band over E, F Chords" article was a spoof posted on the humor site scoopthis.com and mocked up to look like a genuine news page from the MTV.com web site. The joke was executed well enough that it fooled some "legitimate" news services, such as Ananova, into picking up the story. |
