line 6 Guitar Port
anyone using a Line6 Guitar port out there? Great little device lets you attach your electric directly to a windows pc. models 8 amps and special effects boxes. lets you download songs and shows tab as you play with the device. Sounds good and it is easy to use. Picked it up for 169 lets you use a Pc and headphones as a practice amp

I've been thinking about getting one.....looks like a great idea. I think guitar mag has free downloads for it to correspond with the tab in each months magazine.
|
i'm thinking about getting a POD 2.3 instead, you can get one used for about $200 and has way more stuff then the guitarport, 32 amp models, effects, etc. Not exactly for the same purpose, but for $40 more you get a lot more functionality.

Yea I got the port because of its small size and portability I travel on business allot and this little sucker and a speedster travel guitar give me all I need to play anywhere, I use a pandora for effects and I love the combination of the 2

I love my guitar port!
Besides all the great effects I can use it to lay down tracks with cool edit pro. My computer has become a total recording studio. |
I also have one, are there other places to get tones other than the official site?

That sounds like a great idea. I have not played much in recent years, and playing with a CRT monitor gave that awful hum...now that I have a flat panel and a bit more free time, this sounds like a potential purchase. Thanks for mentioning it.

cool

Also, I recomend updating to version 2.0, which gives you more effects and things to play with, and it updates the firmware.

Question - I just got the new toy and am really, really impressed. For those of you in the know - what happens to all the tones and songs I d/l from the GuitarPortOnline service when I unsubscribe? If I have downloaded them to my HD, will I still be able to access them (and better yet, do I have to save them in a special manner?)
Thanks! |
Line 6 makes outstanding equipment... I've never used something of theirs I've been disappointed with.Their amp, the Spyder, is one of the better ones I've played.

I actually don't like modelling stuff.
I stretch to good quality digital effects, but most of the stuff I like is analog. I'm doing some recording right now using little 30 watt el84 powered boutique amps, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Most of the line 6 stuff I've played with seems okay at first, but it just doesn't have the feel of a really good guitar amp. I was interested in the guitar port for doing stuff just to muck around, the versatility is great, but I wouldn't use one for professional work. :) |
I personally have never been a fan of Line6 crappy gear. Cool effects yeah but their amps are shit!!
no offense to those who like them, just a personal opinion:) |
I've got a pod 2.0 on my computer desk, running into my mixer. Its nice nice nice. I went from having a 5150 and a Marshall to no amps and a pod...
|
ive heard line 6 was good, didnt really look much into it
gotta get some new stuff |
Line6 seems to have a love/hate relationship with the public. People like their stuff, or not. Personally, I'm looking for a new amp, and since I'm a relative beginner with developing musical tastes, the Line 6 Flextone or Spyder would be perfect for me because of their versatility. But, if their amps really are as bad as some people seem to say, then that plan is a no go.

I want to use guitar port, but unfortunately I have a Mac and they don't have software for such rare computers
|
I have a Line6 AX2 - and it is pretty versatile and annoyiong at the same time.
Versatile: I can get lots of strange sounds out of it that I like a lot. The interface is easy to use once you learn how to deal with it live. Annoying: there's a pause in sound when switching channels, plus at high volumes the amp starts mis behaving... |
I was going to get one just to play around with but read somewhere people had problems running it with windows xp (which is what I'm running). Anyone using one with XP and have you had any problems?
|
I run XP and it's been fine for me you need to download newest version from the web but it was a fast easy install on my notebook
|
Thanks for the info woolley bear
