Released in 2009 first quarter music
So far this year, I think alot of crap has been produced. I'm actually looking to see whats to come before I can gauge 2009 as a decent year in music.
I've bought Fantasies by Metric... AWESOME CD, by far my favourite Nothing else so far has appealed to me, and I'm a lover of all things musical... I've been looking to see if I can move towards Jazz/Blues to become more familiar with that but still... nothing at all. Can someone suggest anything to listen to that has come out in the past three to six months? |

Haha, I came in here to mention Fantasies. Great album. It can be streamed online at Metric - Fantasies - Help I'm Alive - MP3 Download - New Album - Emily Haines
I'll have to think a little bit if anything else stood out to me over the past 3-6 mos.

Kylesa - Static Tensions
Album came out 2 days ago but it's been leaked online for quite some time now. They're a psychedelic proggy metal band with occasionally heavy riffs. A bit like Isis but with shorter and much less coma inducing tracks. Intronaut - Prehistocrisms Their last effort falls a month short of your 6 month requirement but it's worth the mention. They play experimental prog metal with a lot of jazz and sludge influences. Incredible bass lines. Consciously written and well played. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz Awesome album from an awesome band that really doesn't need a description. Since you're a Metric fan they're probably more up your alley than the last two. I should also add that all of the bands I've recommended are currently on tour.

The Script with their self titled album was great. hmm
i also found the album by The Duke Spirit was really good good, the sound of her voice is looming , but i like it. and on a different note Lady Sovereign and her new album "Jigsaw" is amazing depending on ur taste of music of course.

Although I haven't consumed a featured studio album since 2007, I am very interested to see this thread grow a bit more so I can compare the reviews to artists/albums. It'll help me compile a certain wishlist for the year's great new music in order to fasttrack me from my recent drought in popular listenership.

I thought the new album by The Prodigy (Invaders Must Die) was pretty good,
and I liked the new Lacuna Coil album (Shallow Life) too.

I know it's been all over MTV lately, but Asher Roth's album Asleep in the Bread Isle is actually quite good. It does remind me on Eminem at times, but still manages to sound fresh, and not typical at all.

Stuff in my car:
The Von Bondies - Love, Hate, And Then There's You (not quite pawn shoppe but it's great) Neko Case - Middle Cyclone Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz! Franz Ferdinand - Tonight The Decemberists - The Hazards Of Love (Not close to as solid as Picaresque but The Wanting Comes In Waves is one of their best songs) My personal favorite is a four song EP by Death Cab For Cutie (who are hit and miss for me) called "The Open Door EP". Very good. Narrow Stairs and The Photo Album are must haves; Plans and Transatlanticism are okay.

Up for preorder now, set for a late June release. I'll definitely be picking this one up. Looks like a long one... 75 minutes!
