Need some exercise music for a class

Hey, i added to my yoga/pilates class and started teaching spin and i need some upbeat, grinding, driving, just great workout music. Most of my class is spent at high aerobic/anaerobic territory, so i'm looking at anything from the last 40 yrs in music that just gets your heart pumping. Anyone have any faves?

just a list of what i'm using so far: Krazy by pitbull, lollipop remix by framing hanley, diturbia by rhianna, whereever i my roam by metallica, sex type thing by stp,

i'm looking to expand out of the more recent stuff. I do'nt want the class to be a 90's throwback to just grunge or something bc that is what 'i' gravitate towards, so i'm trying to see what gets the blood pumping in others adn i know TFP is about as diverse a group as i can find.

Thanks :)

Just play all 80's music and put on neon jazzercise gear. Seriously.

Anyways... Any chance of electronic stuff like dance music, straight beats, etc??

Baraka_Guru 03-04-2009 04:26 AM

I've been experimenting with music in the gym (I just got a membership). So far these tunes have stuck out for high intensity:

"Bombs Over Baghdad" Outkast
"Here It Goes Again" OK Go
"Hate to Say I Told You So" The Hives
"The Way I Are" Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson

I'll post more if I think of them.

heh, my friend actually did an 80's theme and it was HILARIOUS. she did the high side ponytail, the neon legwarmers, lose hsirt over neon tight thingie, arm bands, headband, the works...then 80's songs...was hilarious, but it's just not me.

Actually, house/trance/drum and bass works, but i'm not familiar with anyone to look for in those genres, so any names you recommend?

Baraka, thanks, those work really well. Oh and if yo'ure new and want to meet a bunch of people, take the classes. There aren't many guys who take them, but they are easier to use to get a good workout. I was not sure of how long to work or how hard to go or even what to do and classes just seem to fit for me. Of course, the eye candy helps get your heartrate up too :)

Hey, I'm doing my first one this Saturday morning. My gym has that "BODY" series developed by Les Mills. I'm doing the BODYPUMP class, which is basically a 60-minute aerobics-type class...but with a barbell. I think it would be good to do group exercise, as it's probably far more motivational than flying solo. I'm looking forward to it. The other classes in the series are looking good too. I also want to try BODYCOMBAT and BODYATTACK.

gucci: Thanks for the list. I just might check some of those out. Sometimes the music they play at the gym is too top-40 for me.

Les mills stuff is really good. Bodypump is one of their best known and the good part is that you can make the class as hard as you want. Just DO NOT load up the weight on the bars for your first class. Seriously, i know it seems wimpy, but 5-10 lbs on each side is about all i'd recommend on the first class. The way it is set up is to go to almost fatigue level on each set, about 5 minutes each, and you go from largest bodyparts to smallest. I couldn't move my arms the day after my first class bc i was trying to judge based on people who were about my size. HUGE mistake. The class isnt' really aerobics, though, more of a muscle toning. basically: warmup, quads/squats, chest, biceps, triceps, legs(lunges, etc) shoulders, then core/abs and cooldown. each track is about 3-5 minutes long.

Bodycombat is akin to aerobic kickboxing with a good instructor (most of the les mills programs are choreographed by the company, so instructors are pretty much required to teach exactly what the company wants..which is good if the instructor isn't creative, bad if you have someone who can do and show more) It's fun, but you have to be good in shadowboxing, snapping hte punches, etc, to get a good workout. I see people who kinda wing the punches and you don't work nearly as hard. Just keep it clean and snappy and you'll work your butt off.

Bodyattack is a bootcamp/athletic conditioning style, really good with plyometrics, anaerobic drills and a lot of core work. easily one of the more fun classes at most gyms.

word of advice, though..it takes about 2-3 times before you get comfortable in a class and can follow the instructor w/out looking like like a white boy at a nightclub trying to dance.

Gucci, thanks sooo much for the d&b primer. I mainly have 2-3 sections in an hour that i can use the drum/bass for just plowing it out and killing people. I needed something where you can just let your mind go and just concentrate on almost killing yourself.

Any other recommendation from anyone on songs?

Thanks again

even though it's my least favorite album.. check out Project Human by Dieselboy.. it's a bit more mainstream and might work better for your class..

If you want some different stuff check out Human Imprint.. Diesel heads this project up..it's a mix of hard DnB and Metal and Grindcore.. good shit.

Glory's Sun 03-05-2009 07:59 AM

anybody find anything good yet?

Paq 03-05-2009 08:55 AM

yea, i have some nice house/d&b music, black sun empire, diesel, etc, but if you have any other recommendations, i'm all ears. I basically have to have 10 hrs of genre mixes and i can mix it up from there so class isn't boring.

Glory's Sun 03-05-2009 09:01 AM

You could try Dj Irene - I'm not a fan of her, but she has high energy quick mixes

DJ Rap (she's hot)
Dj Baby Anne
Dj Icey
Tiga
Tiesto
Underworld
Oakenfold
Van Dyk (not my cup of tea, but a lot of people like it)
Propellerheads
Prodigy
Mj Cole
Plump DJ's
Kosheen
Groove Armada
Felix Da House Cat
Dj Qbert (old school)
DJ Dan
Bad Boy Bill (chicago house)
Crystal Method
Chemical Brothers

just going through my albums so this isn't all.. but it might give you some more options on the electronic side

If you want some rock or metal I can point you to some although there are lots of people on here that are more into the metal scene than I am.
