M.I.A. How do you say her name?
Talking about the singer/rapper here. And I don't mean her actual name (Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) which isn't easy to pronounce.
I mean are you supposed to say the letters M...I...A separately. Or do you say Mia or Mya (Maya). Having an argument with a friend about it so just curious. |
As separate letters. Thus the dots between each letter.
And I wouldn't go so far as to call her a rapper. |

EM EYE AY. is how I would say it.

let her settle the pronunciation question:

M.I.A. says her name at the end though. |
if i could have found something worse, i would've posted it.
trust me. |
I don't know who MIA is, but after that story I really want to find out more about her.
I'm also a sucker for accents. |

Also, for anyone that hasn't heard her, here is her first single. Obviously not for everyone, but I at least found it catchy for some reason. Interesting fact: Maya is the daughter of Arul Pragasam, leader of LTTE which is a violent militant terrorist organization. I saw it posted on a youtube link and I check it out. |

I didn't realize there was any subtlety involved. |

"Ba ba ba ba bah... I'm lovin' it!" ring a bell? Also, I really liked your Electrobug in some other thread, I just didn't reply. My favorite yet. |
I say both EM AYE EH and Mia, depending on how lazy I'm feeling.

Tuft, to be conscious to be influenced. Music is no exception.
And I'm surprised Shauk that you aren't in to her music at all. I've heard a million different electronica artists already mix and incorporate a few of her songs in to their sets and mixes. None better than Sports mix of her "Birdflu" into their latest mix "I'm Hungry". If you like what's on their myspace then I'll send you the full mix. |
I've heard of her, she sings in a single of a portuguese band, Buraka Som Sistema.
They basically make a type of Kuduro music that is very electronic based (Kuduro is an Angolan type of music and dance). I thought I'd post the video because the dancing is so weird it's impossible not to be curious! It's like a whole other world... |
