Jungle Music
Hi, I've been hearing a sort of insurgence in the amount of radioplay Jungle music is getting on my favourite radio station and I can't help but feel drawn to it. This coming from a fan predominantly into metal.
Now I won't say that I know anything about Jungle music because quite simply I don't so that where I like your help. Where would a good place be to start listening to Jungle music? Like who's the baddest Jungle DJ out there or which compilation has the baddest beats? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll leave you with this joke I heard on that radion station... Q:"Why did the Lion get lost in the Jungle?" A:"'Cause da JUNGLE was MASSIV!" Solid. |

Some of the biggest Jungle names I can think of are DJ Rap, Goldie, Optical, Ed Rush, Roni Size (who does a track with Zach de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine called 'Center of the Storm', it kicks ass), Squarepusher and Amon Tobin. Plug these names into Kazaa (or whatever p2p program you favor) and you'll find something you like.

Drum and Bass has a lot of different "sub genres" including jungle, jump up, tech step, ragga jungle. There are a lot of different sounds out there coming from different producers, you just have to find the one thats right for you. Unless you're like me and they're all the right one ![]() |

Yeah, jungle or drum and bass... It's all good.
My favorites are: The Bad Company (UK) crew Ed Rush & Optical Metalheadz crew The Full Cycle crew (Roni Size, etc.) 1.8.7 A few others... I'd highly recommend the Drum And Bass Arena compilation for a great overview of what's gone on, Metalheadz "Platinum Breakz II", and the Kemistry and Storm contribution to the DJ Kicks series... Some folks on another board were talking about a new style of dnb that's infused with punk rock or hardcore or something! Another current movement is the bossanova tinged dnb. not sure if it's still the thing lately or not.

One of my favourite compilations is 'INCredible Sound of Drum & Bass' mixed by Goldie (not a typo in INCredible). A bit old now but it has a retro disc and a current (at the time disc). Not sure if it's available in NZ but it'll be on the 'net somewhere.

LTJ Bukem is cool if your into a little more ambient style (prob. not if you are into mostly metal), but for the ruff shit, i am still really diggin' tha Renegade Hardware label though i have admittedly fallen out of the loop in '03.
