Unknown song from Whose Line Is It Anyway
 

Ok. This has been bugging me for the longest time, and I haven't been able to get an answer out of anyone (although many people are familiar with the tune).

In the show Whose Line Is It Anyway, season 8 episode 11 they did a sketch--and it's the only time that type of sketch was done--called "ice skaters." Ryan and Colin did a weird Ice Skating Dance Without Ice Or Skates to the theme of...like...Feeding Raccoons Peanut Butter, or something. It (the song) sounds like it's from an Opera.

So! Anyone seen the episode? I thought it was Ride of the Valkyries, but I was WAY off. THen I thought it was from HMS Pinafore, but nope.

If it is, then damn. I normally consider myself pretty good at identifying classical music, but in this case I'm stumped. I know I've heard it before, but probably on the radio, and a while back. To be sure, I ran through my collection of symphonies and opera overtures but didn't find anything that sounded like that. You should probably find a classical music enthusiast forum and post the link there to see if anyone knows what it is.

I also meant to add that because of the way it sounds, it's more likely to be written by Romantic composers (e.g., Tchaikovsky, etc), than by the real classical composers (e.g., Mozart, Hayden, Bach, etc.). I suggest looking through this site; go through Tchaikovsky's stuff, focusing on overtures, symphonies, and pieces with specific names, then trough his Romantic contemporaries. If that doesn't help, look trough Verdi, Beethoven, Puccini...Sibelius...Brahms, Bruch, and especially Mussorgsky, Grieg and Rimski-Korsakov (these last three's styles in some pieces are similar to the one you're looking for). I know it's a huge list to go through, but that's what I would do if no-one knew what it was.

So, to summarize, search for symphonies, overtures and pieces with specific names by Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Bruch, Rimski-Korsakov, Mussorgsky and then through their contemporaries...That's how I would start. Good luck, and let us know what you find! :)

Also, it could very well be a movie piece (it has that epic feel), in which case you'll have an even harder time trying to find out what it is. It isn't from Star Wars, though - that's for sure. :)
