Favorite Music Videos and why?
"I Feel Love" by the Blue Man Group featuring Venus Hum
Just such a beautiful rendition of that song. Check it out if you want, I watch this video seriously every day, it just makes me smile. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C5-ClvcHtK4"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C5-ClvcHtK4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> |
White Stripes - Fell in Love with a Girl
An original concept, to be sure, the fully-lego music video is visually stunning and incredibly creative. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XRDi67G0Siw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XRDi67G0Siw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Michael Jackson - Thriller Probably the most cinimatic of all music videos and the quintessential music video of the 80s, Thriller is everything that's right about music videos. Also, Vincent Price is incredible. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rT90keJ51bY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rT90keJ51bY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight Mesmerizing music with an incredible facsimile to the old 20s and 30s silver screen science fiction fantasy movies, paying homage to classic From the Earth to the Moon. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsZYqaSc4cU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsZYqaSc4cU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> I'll skip Take On Me because I don't like the song.... Röyksopp - Remind Me Really quirky video using the visuals you might get from directions and such. Cool stuff. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lBvaHZIrt0o"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lBvaHZIrt0o" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Ok Go sucks. |
I'll start off with a little Mark Romanek genius:
Nine Inch Nails - Closer I really like how this video captures the feel of old film while having modern technological inventions throughout, and manages to fit the song extremely well. Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug Can't beat Trent Reznor playing Edgar Allen Poe in a rather surrealistic environment :) Next, a long, but intriguing video: Tool - Schism Awesomely creepy. Finally, I was going to post a Björk video or two, but then I realized pretty much all of her videos are awesome. So, I'm posting just one, but encourage people to check out others on youtube :) Björk - Human Behavior Fun. Crazy. Appropriate. Almost forgot... The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist Seriously...this one is just weird. |
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
It's just barkig mad. |
Bjork--Pagan Poetry
Best she's ever done Tool--Prison Sex love the little dude Marilyn Manson--Coma White..so good for some many personal reasons. The greatest of all time?? Pink Floyd--The Wall |
I agree on the Closer video. It is an awesome and beautiful piece.
I like Mark Romanek videos more than most of the songs they are made for, lol. such as... Madonna's Bedtime Story. Scream by Michael & Janet Jackson. Janet Jackson's Got Til It's Gone. You can tell that I haven't been a regular viewer of music videos in many, many years, lol. Radiohead's Paranoid Android is a classic. I also have always like Madonna's video for Vogue...it's very pretty and I love the throwback to old Hollywood stuff. oh! and Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy video freaks me the hell out, but I like it. :) |
forgot a couple:
Deftones--Digital Bath Rage Against The Machine--Killing In The Name Of (live) |

I love the white stripes vid...but it pales in comparison to the stop motion originator and innovator Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer.
|
Seldgehammer: Hated the song. video was cool tho.

I agree! one of the best... Mine? Supertramp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjazA_Vg3uQ really cool. |

Johnny Cash - Hurt (NiN cover)
Beautiful song, and also I believe it was Mr. Cash's final video. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AO9dbmJ_2zU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AO9dbmJ_2zU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Great video's you all, I've been watching these and really liking all of them. :) |
Cochise - Audioslave . its just kick ass
|
Coolest thread, ever. -edit Excuse me, let me thank you all for sharing, the videos kept me entertained for quite some time. Love it. Maybe some love for youtube is in order, but the framework never made people smile, it's always the ones that use it.
|
pearl jam - Evolution : awesome animated video. and the song is great.
Pink Floyd - The wall : entire movie is the best music video! and i love the style. it's 2hrs long. i wont be posting it! The Cardigans - My Favorite Game : this video was just intense the 1st time i watched it and it stayed with me forever since. plus the girl is hot! The Offsprings - The kids aren't allright : nice morphing and style and the song rocks! |

Yeah I only posted a snipet. It's really an amazing video..no matter what state of mind you are in. ;) |
Every tool video and the two nin vids linked are awesome.
Two favorites: Slipknot invited a bunch of fans to a house to trash it while playing Duality: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKs4_CPXUqk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKs4_CPXUqk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Such a fitting video for One by Metallica: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JwW9L_qzqp8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JwW9L_qzqp8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> One of my favorite songs with the video being a take on the Twilight zone episode, Inside Out by Anthrax: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/n-5PXzsQn3A"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/n-5PXzsQn3A" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> And just because it's where my avatar came from: Domination by Pantera: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LTR-tePa0Bg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LTR-tePa0Bg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> |
Nice ones spec!
The one and only version of Hurt in my book (yes Cash's version sucked) Skinny Puppy--Worlock Sepultura--Refuse/Resist Fear Factory --Ressurection (goddamn they kick so much ass) Twisted Method--Reach (live) These guys are pretty good for straightedge kids Mudvayne--Death Blooms (back when they were actually good) |
I dunno.. this video by SadKermit of Hurt is pretty compelling...
imma watch the NIN version again... been a long time... |
I just find art direction and the perfect integration of a song's meaning conveyed by a music video is lost on some people. Here are some examples of what made me convert: (By the way, I agree with about 92% of the choices you guys before me made choosing those as great music vids. kudos!)
Daft Punk: Around the World {Recommendation: also check out Da Funk} Blur: Coffee & TV {Recommendation: also check out Beetlebum} Enjoy. |
Kermit is the fucking shit.

jetsteam: damn! i forgot that one. Around the world was the 1st great video i saw that made me want to watch it over and over again!
gotta add a favourite from back in the days: KMC featuring Dhany - I feel so fine : obviously picked for the girls and i liked the song too. so simple yet perfect. |

Jamaroquai - Virtual insanity : i love it because i saw a making of and it's actually the whole room that moves. not 3d or anything like that. |

This is one of the best live performances of pop music I've ever seen. KT Tunstall puts on an amazing one-woman-band performance with her hit, "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree." There's something about her performance that is simply mesmerizing.
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D_1t7wqYkTI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D_1t7wqYkTI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> I can't list my favorite music videos without NOFX. When I was a teenager growing up in a conservative Christian household, NOFX and other pop punk bands allowed me to escape the neoconservatism and imagine myself in a completely different world. Fat Mike may be too political nowadays, but he rocked when he was younger. I present to you NOFX -- Stickin in my Eye <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jDKE2VLFZr8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jDKE2VLFZr8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> |

Sorry not sure how to post videos, anyway the 2 that come to mind are Johnny Cash - Hurt. I'm not a Cash fan but that video just got to me, especially knowing he died soon afterwards. Also Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy. A very good video that came out when I was in my early teens, it made think about how gay people were treated at the time, and made me more sympathetic towards people.

I picked these mainly because they culminate my high-school experience. These videos are appealing for their variances in energy, moving from aggressive to restrained... a common enough style at the time, but effective nonetheless.
In both of these videos you get a good harmony between the visuals and the music. Excellently produced in both cases. Great additions by all. I just wish this thread didn't need to be revived every so often because of a lack of participation.
Oh, the surreality and trip-factor of this video plays right along with the lyrics. A definite favorite. The Pharcyde - Otha Fish |
Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush. I admire the fact that it's a such a simple, but memorable, video.

And here is the discovery

Oh, this is easy
This video has two songs, i like the second one the best (too animalistic).
The whole video is only like 3 and a half mins. The Voms- Im in love with your mom/Too Animalistic  |
If you liked "Closer" by NiN you should check out the still photography of Joel-Peter Witkin: Link to JPW info. Almost every image in the video was borrowed from JPW's book "Gods of Earth and Heaven."
If you like the Tool stop-motion animation videos (and Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" video) then you should check out The Brothers Quay: Link to Brothers Quay info. |
cibo matto: sugar water
i really like michel gondry. i like this gondry video best of all. there's so much going on visually in it and the concept is smart and th emesh of visuals and audio make a sum greater than the parts. what more can you ask from one of these? cornelius: smoke it's simple and effective and a great song. an old fave, mostly for the lyrics. xtc: complicated game a couple hiphop treats. this i've posted a few times before, but i still think it is, in the parlance of our times, the shit.. ultamagnetic mcs: poppa large freestyle fellowship: innercity boundaries i just like this for the way the jazz/hiphop thing works both sonically and visually. |
"Here It Goes Again", OK Go
Ok, I know this video is liked by half of the world, but that doesn't mean it's undeserving of recognition here too! It's a lot of fun, and I enjoy how low-key the filming is (apparently a home video?). You've gotta appreciate the amount of work and practice that had to go into the choreography. Supposedly, they can do the full dance live! "Let Me Know", Róisin Murphy Nothing outrageously unique in this video, but I love the mixture of her beauty, amusing dancing, and clothing. She's very talented, and I am just enthralled. I can't stop watching her, or this video! "Eh Hee", Dave Matthews This video is thought provoking, bizarre, and very unique. It's filmed in the style of playing the music slowly during recording, then speeding up the film later, creating the creepy and strange effect of quick, jerky movements. The dancers in the background are very creepy, and Dave is definitely showing off his acting skills with this song and video. There's a lot open to interpretation, which I like, and allows for me to watch the video over and over again, noticing something new each time. "Learn to Fly", Foo Fighters A video with a story is always a plus as you're entertained throughout. Having a wonderful song, both by lyrics and sound, in the background is a huge plus - especially one by the Foo Fighters. The video is a lot of fun, with the band playing many characters in their "short film". And hey, even Jack Black has a small featured part. Sit back, relax, and enjoy! |
"Oh Mandy" by The Spinto Band. It's artsy, the song is amusing, and they're great performers.

I would have to say that "the bleeding" by Five Finger Death Punch has to be one of my favorities. It's a perfect metal video, and on top of that that, the chick in it is SMOKIN'!

As already stated tw ovideos from the wall are amoung my favorites- great animation.
|
Don't know how to put up the things so if anyone wants to add them to my post go for it friends.
My favorite would either be C'mon C'mon by The Von Bondies, The Other Man by Sloan, or Reptilia by The Strokes. Not so much because they are super cool visually, even though I think The first and the last are, they capture the song better then most videos I have seen.
