Looking for new music?

Try Pandora You tell it what you like, it suggests some other groups you might like. Pretty useful for personalized radio at work or similar situations.

Pandora rocks. I've gotten into a bunch of bands I would've never listened to without it.

Fly 02-02-2007 08:37 PM

great link pigglet..........thanks man

......my two bands don't come up though...........wtf?

:shakehead:

This site has been suggested many times. I'm checking it out now, for my particular genre, and it appears that I know pretty much every band that makes the music I like.

Sorta depressing.

I was just coming here to do this because I just discovered it yesterday! It's great for people like me who like bits and pieces of many genres.

and another thing that's easy to miss - once you've got a bunch of channels, you can have it create a mix channel for you. really nice if your tastes jump all over the map.

I've been using Pandora and Last.fm for a little while now and enjoy both. I *just* discovered another really interesting site: http://www.stage.fm/

It's a site with mostly indie music and provides a lot of it to listen to for free (through their music player). Artists can also sell their music on the site and get 100% of the cost. I think this explains the rest:
Quote:

The average big label band only keeps less than 1% of their cd sales (sometimes a lot less) To me this seems like a problem. We were trying to solve the problem by letting bands sell through stage.fm and keep 80%, but it just didn't seem to be enough. So we have decided to go out on a limb and let bands sell their songs through stage.fm and keep 100% of the cost of the song. The sites advertising revenue can cover the cost of processing credit cards. We also let bands choose the price, (which is good except everyone thinks they are worth more than they are.. hint.. hint...)
Our hope is that this will encourage more people to sell through stage.fm We are also big fans of free music, so we have made it so that only the free music shows up in the charts, so your best bet is to put up a few freebees to draw people in, then you can sell the rest. (Kind of like the radio singles/cd model) Anyway, as far as I know we are the first ones to do this. At the moment we are sell based on a credit system, however we have plans to move to a strait up purchase system like iTunes. (Also did we mention that we don't have drm.. DRM seems to be quickly going the way of the buffalo, and a lot of people buying songs don't want to have their rights limited in such a way.)

Thanks for everyone support
- Ryan
EDIT: If you register, you can download 30 free tracks per day in DRM-free mp3 format

secret excellent - i'll have to check out stage.fm - if you like indy/folk/bluegrass, you can check out www.hober.com its not for everyone, but if you like mountain music its pretty decent. i'm streaming it through itunes right now.

fly, did they give you the "we'll check them out" thing? i've had that happen a few times as well...maybe they've got some lackey that will actually look y'all up? i think, to a certain extent, pandora mostly functions to plug bands that are coming up on tour with medium-big labels, but that's just the impression i get from watching their selections. i've never checked -can you submit things for consideration?

You have to send them a CD. They actually listen to EVERY CD they get so that they can categorize them properly. We sent our CD in; it took about two months but my band is up there.

So Halx what's your music fix?

pig 05-18-2007 10:49 AM

fuck it, bump.

Caco 05-20-2007 07:50 AM

I cannot see this page... It's impossible for people from behind the USA...

Push-Pull 07-03-2007 06:54 AM

Bump again. Yes, Pandora is THAT cool.

I have found more GREAT music inside of 24 hours with Pandora than any other way I've tried. Looks like I'll need more iTunes cash.....

Anyhow, any of you been using it enough to give others hints on how to make it even cooler? Like tips on how to search, etc?

healer 07-03-2007 08:34 AM

Pandora...now that's a fond memory.

Unfortunately, due to licensing constraints, listeners outside the U.S. are no longer allowed access. Which really blows. Seriously.

:(

This is awesome, thanks for the link. This should pass a nice chunk of time while at work.
