Imogen Heap? Opinions?
Hrm, just got a bunch of these tracks. I"m very confused, I can't say that I know what to label it as. It's nice though, Wonder if anyone here could enlighten me on their opinions?
Avant garde, for sure. I love her music. :)
Why label it?? Seriously, what purpose does it serve?
I've been checking out her "Speak For Yourself" album and it's generally pretty light. She's a great producer, though. I will say this though: Hide and Seek is getting a lot of plays right now in my iTunes. It gets me in a soft spot. |
I love Imogen's music!
The thing that really impresses me is that she has done it all herself! Did you know that she taught herself sequencing, music engineering, sampling and production on Atari computers? Pretty impressive! For her album 'Speak For Yourself' she did everything, including designing the artwork! She has formed her own record label, and edits, mixes, and produces everything! She has sole control over where her music is used, etc. If you want to check out other stuff from her - download music from Frou Frou (a band she was part of in between her solo careers...), they have some good songs too! All in all - a pretty awesome artist! As for a label - I agree with Aberkok - why bother? She's in her own realm... |
I love Hide and Seek...her voice is amazing. To be honest I think I like her solo stuff better than the stuff by Frou Frou.
And she's apparently classified as "Electronic." In case anyone cares :P |
I do like her solo work more than the Frou Frou disc and randygurl pretty much summed it up with her other skills, which really just makes me appricate it even more.
If you like Imogen Heap check out Kate Havnevik. Like Imogen she's also got a couple albums in the works all at the same time and on her own lablel. Both of them should have some new stuff out shortly. |

I've got Frou Frou's Details and Imogen Heap's Speak For Yourself. There's about five songs total on both releases that I really like, a few more that are pretty cool, and the rest seems like repetitive filler. Speak For Yourself is easily the better of the two releases. |
If you like Imogen Heap, I do suggest actually purchasing her music. Like someone mentioned above, she's handling a lot of the work herself, which means she's probably actually making decent profits off of CD sales, unlike most artists.
Electronic is one of the better categories to label her under, but it's not totally accurate. She's a bit difficult to pin down, which of course is a good thing :) Personally, I label her as "good." :D Glad to see others are enjoying her music as well; I stumbled upon her out of total accident. |
It's all about Hide and Seek, I don't really care that much for the rest of her stuff, but that song is just absolutely amazing. I prefer Regina Spector in general, she's amazing.
I have the album and am proud of her as a fellow female British musician! There are some very cool clips on YouTube which are definitely worth checking out.
I enjoy her music, not as much as I thought I would, but she is incredibly talanted. Perhaps I haven't given Speak For Yourself enough time in my I pod, but in general, not a huge fan. Hide and Seek is perhaps the 2000's equivilant of Hallelujah for me though; perhaps the sadest song ever. It's very beautiful. I enjoy Frou Frou a lot though, go figure.
Definately a style all her own. Interesting to say the least.
my mates band (Pixel8) have supported her a couple times... and he likes her.
I made it to one of her concerts a while ago. She has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
So, speaking of Imogen Heap, how stupid is it that Carrie Underwood - of American Idol fame - beat out Imogen Heap at the 2007 Grammy Awards for best new artist?!
The stupidity of this decision is inversely proportional to how much the Grammys matter.
Indeed. I guess it's just that I'd like them to matter, but each year it seems as though I become more and more confident that they do not.
