In 1996, I was heavily into dance music. The Prodigy had just released Music For The Jilted Generation (one of the finest albums ever recorded) IMHO.

I was still listening to a lot of stuff from earlier in the nineties, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Guns n' Roses... But it was mainly dance music.

hmmm, I was still listening to pretty much what I listen to now. Only now it's far more intense. I think I had a heavier diet of classic guitarists like Hendrix and Claptin. But I listened to Jazz a fair amount, which is my music of choice still.

I had just discovered Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Green Day in 1996. I think I discovered Our Lady Peace around then as well.

I still definitely listen to all three of those now.

A whole lot of death metal: Slayer, Death, Morbid Angel, etc. The only band among them that has lasted through to today is Slayer.

Ten years ago I was almost strictly into east coast rap. Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Nas, etc... I can't honestly remember when I started first getting into metal, but it was around that time as well, so maybe Deftones also (first "rock" CD I ever bought).

10 years ago? hmm....tircky's first record, jeru the damaga, nas' illmatic, tons of dubs--lots and lots of dub---sonic youth, dr. octagon came out around 96-97, can't remember exactly...beat junkies...mbv, swervedriver's mezcal head...i liked a song called "crank"--i think it was catherine wheel or something like that...

in 1996 i was heavily into the Spice Girls. you have no idea how much. i had posters of them all around my room. knew the words to all their songs (still do) ssshhhhh, don't tell anyone even owned the spice girls movie...
my favorite was scary spice.

You know, I have NO idea I know I liked the Spice Girls back then... I listened to the radio a lot- mainly the mainstream rock radio. So I guess that would have been a lot of Offspring, Bush, Oasis, Green Day, that kinda thing.

I don't remember when I got into the Prodigy... I think perhaps it was that year. But I do agree with lindalove that Music for the Jilted Generation was one of the greatest albums EVER!

Well, pretty much what I listen to now. Although, 10 years ago, I made an effort to attend concerts/clubs to hear music. I saw STP 3 times in 96! Each show was awesome... I think I even still liked Pearl Jam then. But mostly I listened to very heavy music.

The year I graduated high school and started college! Total change of peer group, so there was a bit of a change in my music listening. My HS mates and I listened to U2, Metallica, Guns and Roses, the ol' grunge bands, Irish folk music, Prodigy, Magnus Uggla. College introduced me to jazz, traditional Swedish choir music, Robert Broberg, Povel Ramel, stuff like that.

1996 was the first time I sung choral music. In Sweden and Finland it's common to sing at dinners in college and at other times as well. I got into a crowd that took the singing very seriously. We usually only had men's choir arrangements (stupid old tradition from when engineering students were almost 100% men), so I sung First Tenor. On the rare occasions we did proper mixed arrangements, they tossed me into the Soprano section to fill it out. Yes, by semi-drunk college students' standards, Pip is a soprano.

Then my employees would be playing, Blind Melon, Alanis Morrisette(?), the Doors, Floyd, Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole, Meredith Brooks, Heart, (I had a very feministic, Lilith Fair manager that would play only women of rock.... and lots of man hating music, used to tease her about it..... wonder where she is now, probably either burnt out on drugs or some corporate ladder climber making more in a day than she did in a year with me.)
