Swayze - Hip-Hop's next big thing or just a myth ?
hey,
I read an article in Blender (June issue; yeah, it's a crappy magazine, but I got it for free on the last day of college a week ago, I found it laying on top of the trash) hyping up an unsigned, enigmatic rapper named 'swayze' from Camden, NJ. To be honest, the article talks about a his larger than life tale (recently came out of a 3 month coma after OD'ing on Adderall, he works in the gun trade, rarely talks to anyone in the press or industry) I haven't been able to find ANYTHING about him on the web, besides this blender article. I've searched newsgroups, soulseek, and some MP3 blogs, and cannot find any of his songs (he's supposed to have only have recorded about 2 or 3 songs, one of them called 'bang' which appears on a NJ mixtape called 'Prawjex') nor can I find any other confirmations about him. Any other hip-hop heads out there ever heard of him ? Is he legit ? Can anyone kindly direct me where I can listen to one of his tracks (mods: PM's are fine, if necessary) ? Is this just a hoax; a marketing strategy by a record company to promote their next big thing; or this real deal ? catcha back on the flipside, keyshawn |
All I could come up with was rumors from about January that Patrick Swayze was going to collabo on some rap song.... but that doesn't quite sound like the drugs/guns sort of thing (although it does sound rather amusing). I'll let you know if I hear anything!!

"Swayze"
I am interning in the music business, and have asked a few people who are involved in the hip hop scene about this article. I have found nothing on this guy. On one hand it does seem larger than life, but at the same time if he is an "arms' dealer, i can understand his reasoning for wanting to remain inconspicuous. However, i live only 30 minutes from camden, NJ and still no one around here knows anything about it.
if I happen to find anything on it i will let you know. Tim |
He should make a new name, becuase before opening this thread, I thought PATRICK Swayze was trying to put himself back into the scene... !!!

Hey MrHoops80,
Welcome to the TFP and thanks for joining and helping out. After searching a little more online, there's no mention of this 'swayze' anywhere else and considering its source is Blender (I hold little, if any, regard for that mag); I'd figure it's just a hoax or a large exaggeration and was a ludicrous [pun] attempt to grab the attention of hip-hop fans to blender and to get the blender, frontrunning crowd attracted to hip-hop. I spent too much time looking for this myth, meh. This thread is actually the #1 result in google for "Swayze hip-hop" (with no quotes). thanks, keyshawn |
Swayze has a couple of songs out, the most popular is Buzzin.. he is pretty legit, I like him. I guess he is actually in a group called Swayze (??) with two other guys I believe.
Recently he has been featured on MTV a lot at the end of shows and seems to be coming out with a show on the channel as well. schwayze* |
Most of the hip hop scene is myth.

And yeah, yawn. Terrible. Boring. etc. |
I saw those guys on MTV. I really don't think he's an arms dealer, or anything of the like. The music is not really my style.
|
Man....
I was all stoked to read about Patrick Swayze reinventing himself! |
Why does this thread keep coming back from the dead?
|
It's like a zombie....
You can never really kill it. |
Just wanted to say, the premise of the show on MTV is kind of ridiculous... "here's a documentary on us trying to get famous. It's gonna air on mtv".
MTV gave the guys so much coverage, I don't see how it's a challenge for these guys to get airplay or anything. But yeah, their music is pretty damn bad. "Baby, will you be my Corona and Lime" ???? bleh. |
Yeah, I'm not feelin this dude at all.
Check out Blu & Exile, pretty dope shit. |
