311 Live Recordings
Anybody into 311? This site is pretty damn cool, tons and tons of shows you can just download completely, and usually decent quality. The band allows tape recorders in most shows, so they're mostly just minidisc recordings, some are right off the soundboard.
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreeli...se.php?cat=311 if you've never listened to 311 before, or whatever, let me make a suggestion... Summer of Love http://ia310111.us.archive.org/1/ite...1d2t15_vbr.mp3 that's from 3-11 day (3-11-04) 5 hour show the whole things actually on dvd too Last edited by something; 06-04-2006 at 10:13 AM.. I've got the 311 Day dvd. It's such a good show, except that Nick butchered D'yer Mak'er.
I've seen them live 11 times, and they always put on a really good show. The site is nice too. Good find. I find myself looking for a show that I was at to download. Doubt I'll find one though. |

You really think Nick butchered it? I dunno about that, I thought it was frickin amazing. Granted he gets out of tune sometimes, but shit, he played how many songs that day? After 311 day 2004 I saw 'em in Chicago and they did that song, it was unbelievable. I bet you'll find a show you were at on archive, there's a ton of 'em there. I found a couple that I was at...I love having a recording of the show you were actually at...so I can't wait for 311 day 2006 to come out, holy crap, can't wait, heh.

I actually went to 3-11 day 2006 and let me tell you, it was amazing. They played 8 consecutive songs from Transistor which I didn't care for although after giving Transistor a chance, would have been awesome to hear live had I known the songs (listen to Jupiter. that's a good one). The DVD will be phenomenal. For sure pick it up.

Yeh Tansistor is great, the block may have been the highlight of the show for me, probably, yep. Anyway, there is nothing official yet that there will be a dvd for 2006. It is official that there will be a portion of the show on HDTV, check out the 311 bb, and it is official that there will be some release in some form of the show to buy, so we'll see. Keep your fingers crossed that they do an entire dvd like 2004, it would be insane.

yes i am sure, he said you're on tv or something in the beginning, there were hdtv cameras everywhere, on the official 311 board it's been said that there will be an hdtv pay per view type thing of part of the concert, recording the whole thing doesn't mean they'll release the whole thing, p-nut posted a message about releasing maybe a double cd or something, nobody's said anything about a full dvd yet, search the 311 message boards if you want the whole story, i'm not saying it's not gonna happen, but it hasn't been said what's gonna happen exactly yet.

I have been really disappointed in their studio albums lately, but still love the first 5 albums or so...

I'm exactly the same way. I didn't even buy their newest one (downloaded it, wasn't impressed at all), and I barely even listened to the one out before that, though I did actually pay for it.
I could still listen to any of their first five though without being bored one bit.

actually p-nut has made it official now, 311 day 2006 dvd. he posted it a few weeks ago on the 311 board.
and let's see, the first five are: omaha sessions, music, grassroots, 311, and transistor the live album? soundsystem? from chaos? evolver? all no good? i can't even comprehend that, those are just amazing records. i can almost understand don't tread on me, i mean, i love the new album, but a lot of people don't, but there are a lot more than 5 good 311 albums, then they got the enlarged to show detail part 1 and 2, dvds and cds, so much great stuff |

I was afraid I fucked up since I didn't do my homework before saying "first 5", you are indeed correct. I definitely dig Soundsystem and From Chaos, but have to respectfully disagree on Evolver. Enlarged to Show Part 1 has a couple cool songs, never heard part 2. Never heard the live album either, so I guess you could say I'm not a dedicated fan like I once was. I'll have to do some catching up

you gotta give evolver another listen
when i saw them do beyond the gray sky for the first time live it was like a religious experience, heh, and sometimes jacks rule the realm at 311 day 06, give those two songs a listen, i'm not saying you can't not like it, hehe, but it's some really amazing well written 311 material, as good as any, in my opinion, just different. |

I don't consider Omaha Sessions to be their first CD. Music came out in 93, Omaha Sessions didn't come out until 98. Besides that, it you wanted to be critical about it, you'd have to list Hydroponic, Unity and Dammit, but I don't count those either. Omaha Sessions is good, but I also have the other three mentioned, and all the songs from Omaha Sessions came from those, so it's nothing too spectacular to me.
The five I really, really dig are Music, Grassroots, 311, Transistor and Soundsystem. From Chaos is ok and has a couple pretty good tracks. Evolver is mediocre at best. Don't Tread on Me is just flat out boring. Don't get any of this wrong, I'm still a fan. I was listening to some remixes of their shit today. Just not as rabid a fan as I used to be. I don't know if that's my fault or theirs, but it happened regardless.

those three demos are their first records, i just said omaha sessions first because all the songs that weren't on music off those three demos were on omaha sessions, and then there were a few more i guess, like independence day...but that became homebrew and what have you, omaha sessions kicks ass though, it's all mixed really nice and sounds great, those original tapes go for so much money now, i can't even begin to afford them, you got all three? amazing, i got mp3s that aren't even the best of quality, but they kick ass, i love the different versions of welcome, plain, nix hex, ftbs, and a bunch more
i've come across a lot of people that fell off with 311 after from chaos, i dunno what's up with that exactly, 311 isn't the same as they were when they started and i'm really glad for that, like the title of their record says, they're evolving - and it kicks ass. especially if you're not as into 311 as you used to be, check out 311 day 2006 when it comes out on dvd, you would not be disappointed. nick came out on stage with a bass and they did "this too shall pass," nick and p-nut both playing the bass solos, utterly amazing, like a 10 song "transistor block" during the second set i believe, it was just amazing, 5 hours of 311 |

I'll still buy most any DVD they put out, because they seem to put them together so well. The sound at the shows is amazing, and if it turns out to have any behind the scenes shit on it, that's always good for a laugh.
I managed to get a copy of Dammit years ago at a new and used place in Kansas City. I think I paid aroud $20 for it. I don't exactly know where it is right now, but it's somewhere in the mess I call a room. The other two just kind of fell in my lap. A friend of a friend had them and was hard up for money. I gave $50 for the pair happily. If you're interested, a friend of mine showed me a pretty nice site for moderately rare mp3s, including the remixes I mentioned about earlier, some B-sides, early stuff, etc... decent quality on most of them too. http://www.comeoriginal.com
