Look at All the Love We Found
I recently stumbled across this Sublime tribute album while digging for information on unrelated stuff - background stuff on G Love, if I'm honest.
I normally give tribute albums a pan on principle, but I picked this one up due to the names on the track listing; with No Doubt and Jack Johnson putting efforts into it, I figured it probably wasn't some half-assed marketing attempt. And... well. Particular favourites are Johnson's cover of Badfish/Boss DJ and Spearhead and Gift of Gab's rendition of What I Got. But really, the whole album is top-notch. It's pretty commonly known that Brad was friends with Gwen Stefani (who appeared on Robbin' the Hood in the track Saw Red) and G Love, along with a large portion of folks from the Long Beach scene. This album, therefore, stands out as a tribute to a fallen friend. The title proclaims it as a tribute to Sublime, but it's really all about Bradley Nowell. Any fans of Sublime, this one comes highly recommended.

I love covers. Unfortunately, that album doesn't have Caress Me Down, which disapoints me. I only know the Sublime stuff that hit the radio, and I was only a moderate fan.

Actually, I would've liked to have seen a cover of Caress Me Down too, although a big part of why I like this album is that it doesn't cover all of Sublime's big hits. It takes a few of the lesser known songs (including some of my favourites, like Work That We Do and Same In the End) and puts a new spin on them. Mind you, Pennywise's cover of Same In the End is easily the least inspired of the whole album, essentially being a note-for-note re-record of the Sublime version, but even still I dig it.
The Greyboy Allstars do a nice jazz instrumental on Doin' Time which is cool, since that song's been covered and remixed ad nauseum. It's just a track that lends itself well to that sort of thing, and kudos goes to the Allstars for taking it in a previously unexplored direction. I've heard rumours that there's another tribute album in the works, so if the track listing on this one isn't to your liking, you can wait for the next one and see if it suits you more.

And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' And the cotton is high Oh, you're daddy's rich And your ma is good lookin' So hush little baby, don't you cry I may have heard the original somewhere. Not entirely sure. EDIT for a bit more content : Yeah, the hook is based off Summertime (hence the similarity in the titles) but the song is definitely a Sublime original. The original is a lullaby and does quite a bit for the black/slave references, whereas Sublime's version is about a guy who's girl cheats on him. He wants to do something about it, but he just can't.
