Cleaning my car?
 

Lets say I spilled something all over my back seat / carpets. By the way, they aren't leather. Now I can't remove my backseat to clean it, so I'm looking for some sort of hand held cleaner, kind of like the big vaccuums that use water and what not to clean carpets, but smaller so I can use it on my car. Do they rent these any where?

"Rug Doctor" has a tool designed for upolstery. I've used it successfully.

I'd sugest doing it on a warm sunny day so that you can bake the car dry afterwards.

I checked out the rug doctor but all I see are giant machines for cleaning carpets in your home. Do they have smaller handheld versions to get around inside the car with?

The upolstery tool is an attachment to the big machine. It comes with 10-15 feet of hose.

Ahh very cool, and that uses the cleaning solution with that attachment as well? Need to really clean this stuff good haha :D

A good cleaning solution would be a mixture of warm/hot water and Woolite (the wool safe laundry soap-liquid version) in a bucket. 6-10 parts water, 1 part Woolite. A medium stiffness brush to apply. Then use the Rug Doctor to vacuum out excess water.

Great for cloth interiors, and leaves a nice clean scent behind.

A quick bit of info if you decide to use the rug doctor and upholstery kit...you *must* get the anti-foam. The hose will not work correctly without it. I've cleaned my couches with the rug doctor and upholstery kit before and it worked just fine and after pretreating several old stains, they came out. Good luck!

You might also consider cleaning the entire back seat instead of cleaning the stain only. That way of there is ANY fading or color change, the whole seat will look the same.

I like rug doctor rentals too...but you also need to buy chemicals in quantity usually needed for an entire apartment. The entire operation could easily run you $50 bucks, leave you with lots of left over chemicals, and after all is said and done, you only have a clean back seat.

That said I have a buddy who has a Bissell "Little Green" Carpet Cleaner. It is hand held, about the size of a sewing machine, and has 8-10 foot hose with a spinning brush at the end, which does everything my upright vacuum sized carpet cleaner does. Wet, chemical application, scrubbing, and sucking out the moisture. That thing has been awesome the several times I've used it.

I found a heated model for under $100 bucks at amazon.com and you'd still have a machine to use your chemicals in after ~this~ job is done.
