Jetta speaker issues
Hookay. This POS 97 Jetta is becoming the bane of my existance. I've now replaced half the car myself and the awesome independent VW guys have replaced the rest. I think I'm beyond my level of expertise here, so I'm going to swallow my pride and ask for some help. And the possibility of not electrocuting myself if I get some good advice is a great motivator.
Here's the deal. About a week ago, the left side of my display on the radio dimmed. I checked the radio fuse and it looks okay. I like loud music, but started to notice a few days ago that the bass didn't sound right. You cannot do Mudvayne and Slipknot without bass, it's sacreligious. So, last night I started fiddling around and realized that all three right side speakers were out. There'd been a crackle and shift in sound practically since I got the dang thing three years ago when adjusting the volume, but I could always adjust the thing just right. I find it really hard to believe that I may have blown all three speakers. One, yes (quite easily), but three?! I've googled the heck out of the topic and found this thread http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...ht=car+speaker which is exactly my system, but I'm not sure how to tell if I've blown it or if the relays are bad. The Haines manual is not helping. Replaced last month were: air conditioning electrical unit (two years without air, arrgh!), interior dash fuse on the cig lighter, lock on driver's door (whole lock unit came out, ha ha!). Two months ago i replaced four hoses, three fuses, two turn signals, a brake light, a headlight and part of the battery relay system myself. So I'm thinking it could be quite feasible that the relays are out. Oh, please tell me someone can help. I'm desperate, cannot afford a new system and going through withdrawals... my audiobooks don't even sound right.
