I can't say for sure, but I think that car might not make it to full production. It is a near replica of a car they raced in the sixties called a "GT40".
I would be surprised if this actually became the 2004 Mustang. Especially after the redesign planned for 2003. |

Yes, it is based almost entirely on the GT40. What's missing in these pics is one dressed up in the Gulf Racing paintwork. Recently a street GT40 went for $360 000+ at the Barrett Jackson Classic Auto Auction. Which was an extremely low price, as it was expected to fetch over 400. |

Yup, I heard that it is going to be put out at $150,000. Also said to beat Vipers and Porshe 911tt's. I think MSN ran this info on it.

I think it is still supposed to be named the GT-40, and it should be. All the dimnesions on the car have been increased slightly to better accomodate its passenegrs over the original race car, but it is supposed to go into limited produciton, for a whole lot o money.

They will be building 3 in 2003, this is to celebrate Ford's 100th anniversry. Every year after that they plan on builing 500 to 1000 a year. They are going to be named the Ford GT, they can't use GT40 because some other buisness copyrighted the name and they were going to charge Ford 15 million dollars ti use they name. I have seen quite a few in person, I restore cars for a living, and the originals are beautiful in person, they make the most beautiful sounds. With the 289 ford v8 they were fast, once they put the 427 in during 1967 they became stupid fast.

I work at Ford and we just got some advertising brochures that include the upcoming GT. Ford lost the rights to call the new car the GT40 as they are originally planned.. and since the new car is actually 43.5 inches tall it's kind of fitting that it didn't carry the same name as the original GT40. The car will sticker around $150,000 and be limited production. Under the cars "highlights" they listed that it was still build as a purebred race car and is designed for stability at 170 mph.
