I don't have time to read teh article now, but I scrolled through for the pics, and I have a few thoughts.
Finally, after all these years, the cobra bagde is back on something without the name, and that deserves it. That paint is a perfect match for the old style, and the black panels along the bottom really elongate and thin out the chunky new Mustang look. I see they didn't put side scoops on, but those are really useless anyway. It's also nice to see they're doing something about the air pressure buildup under the hood, which is probably going to be worse due to the bigger front grille. I'll come back and read it later, but I need to get going to class now. |

As a Mustang Cobra driver, I admit I have been looking forward to this car for a long time. Somehow, it's disappointing. I am bummed that they removed the grill-mounted headlamps that were such a fixture on the old classics, and look so cool on the new Mustang. I like the concepts that <A HREF="http://www.muscularmustangs.com/2005/07cobra.php">these</A> guys came up with better.
The original Shelbys are an institution. You can't fuck with that. What would be wrong with just making it the next generation SVT Cobra? |
IIRC the old Shelbys did not have fogs in the grill. The only thing I think they failed to do correctly on the car was the spoiler. They tried to go for a ducktail however it fails miserablely. It needs to be more molded into the deck. As it stands now it just looks tacked on there but I think the car looks best without a spoiler anyway.

The 67-68 Shelbys did have fog lights in the grill (some of them at least).

i agree, if they are going to do retro then where are the fog lamps? where are the FUNCTIONAL HOOD SCOOPS (not fake ones like last time)

Hmmm must have been the GT350 that had the fogs in the lower chin area and not the grill that I was thinking about.

I would bitch that Ford stuck with a solid axle and 3 link instead of using an IRS, but as the article mentions on page 2, they can handle pretty well with the solid axle. Watching the Grand Am race at Daytona was an eye opener. The Mustang had no problem powering past everyone and making it through the turns fast. Just needs to drop a few pounds so that it can brake better.

I really agree that the vintage shelby's are way sexier. As cliche as it is, i'd love one of those real eleanor recreations.
