Strip or repair it?
79 GMC suburban
body is peeling off fo to rot, wiring is all fucked up and some shit is rigged all wierd... leaf springs are bent so weak theyre inverted (front & back), steering assembly is all fucked up and the entine truck wobbles and hops all over the road...quoted $1,200 to fix/replace just the steering shit...countless hours redoing the wiring, and the body isn't repairable, it needs to be cut & replaced...the thermostat siezed a couple weeks ago causing it to overheat, horribly, not the engine taps (i checked all the rods and rockers, haven't gotten the intake off to check lifters) my oil is not black (keep in mind this engine is 5 months old...brand new from GM, the old one lost all oil and spun 2 bearings because of a silicone patch job on the oil pan lip...)...was almost clear before...stero doesnt work because i had to replace the headlight switch, which it was wired through before(the dimmer, ingenius.) because it melted and refused to function any longer. no headliner, nasty carpet, the dash is all cracked and cut open to fit the stereo...heater has never worked, the wiper linkage is fucked up, so only the drivers side works...the paint is starting to strip off the roof...the home-made front bumper(looks cool, but its shite) is so amature build i have to weld it together some time...the wheels are supposedly too wide for the truck (stock height w/ 12.5" wide rims 33" tires)...the tailgate is fucked up but i have another one to put on it...the drivers side window keeps falling off the rail...power steering pump is dying...ill post me if i think of anything... The engine can be fixed ( i hope...) The seats are good The wheels / Tires are good (1 yr wear, they were on it when i got it) Grill is good...aftermarket billet... Stereo is good (cd etc...) Should i try to rebuild it? Or should i take what i can for my other suburban (80 chevy) and write the rest off as a loss and send it to the steel mill? (keep in mind i make $7/hr so my budget is real tight...to say the least, but im working on getting a better job) :( |
Oh yeah...
The white one has no body rot, is 2 wheel drive, needs an engine, the trans was supposedly rebuilt recently, and it needs interior shit (carpets / seats), needs paint and some body work and new hood/fenders (all body panels on the orange one are rotten, including the hood.) the orange one is 4 wheel drive. but i live in the city |
nevermind the sell it option...that's not worth it...because i plan to keep the seats and engine...

Well with all that seems that is going wrong with it I would strip it and sell almost everything you have for parts...since you have a small block gm engine and probably a good rest of drivetrain, your options are endless to drop it into another vehicle. So do you have another suburban? If you do combine the two and that would make a better one. Go through the engine make sure thats ok since that probably did cost a good chunk of money. And sell whatever you don't need that is worth some money. Fixing that 79 would be such a nightmare, so many little things in a vehicle suck. I've been down that road and you have to know when to cut your losses.

just put the good parts from the super messed up one, onto the other one (the white one?) and then u actually have one whole decent vehicle.

UPDATE:
I went to my cousins house last night and discovered this... http://www.urbandev.net/sub2/ He SOLD my fucking front clip and everything attached to it. along with the innder door panels and the drivers side door, and the dash cluster panel was removed for some reason...and his wife said that if it was up to her shed just get rid of the whole thing, but parting it out will have to do...so i dont know what the fuck is even left of the white one... nice :( This is the orange one, for reference... http://www.urbandev.net/suburban/ |
You should of donated it to a college auto program or charity and get the tax deduction.
|
He sold pieces of your truck? Is he at least giving you the money?
|
Man that sucks about your jackass cousin.
|
he says hes claiming it as storage fees...and supposedly has a 73 front clip for it...it being an 80...are they really THAT interchangeable?
anyway, it boils down to the fact that i need to get it out of there as soon as possible |
just use the sucker for parts
