2006 Dodge Charger

Is It me or does this look like a EuroStyle Pimp Mobile ?
This looks like a euro-design sedan not even a pale reminder of the Great Old Muscle Car.
If you can't see the .jpg here is the url http://www.allpar.com/cars/lx/dodge-charger.html

I know Chrysler thinks Coupes don't sell, but come on! That is not a Charger.

At least, this (now outdated) concept looked like a Charger:

Hell, even this was more of a Charger than that is:

When I was in high school, I had an '87 Shelby Charger by the way. I painted it plum crazy purple and had all the factory stripes custom made in the plum crazy scheme. It was pretty silly but won a lot of Mopar car shows. I need to pull out the pics and post them for old times sake.

What is it with that damnable RAM grille? The concept nose looked much more like a car. The top picture looks like a pickup.

lk_3000 01-22-2005 08:32 PM

Isn't the charger basically a chrysler 300 but with curved fenders.

Yes. I think the roof line is slightly different, but you know it has that Dodge attitude!

Craven Morehead 01-22-2005 08:38 PM

looks like shit

Ramega 01-22-2005 08:47 PM

Dreadful. It's just a Magnum sedan. I agree with the poster, the original concept did it more justice. It's a travesty compared to the original:

I owned a 1969 R/T 440 magnum before I left for college, so I guess I'm something of a purist. I don't give a damn about the luxury goodies. Give me some style, performance, and a comfortable ride; I'll worry about the extra custom goodies.
But don't tell me this new design is a homage to the classic, it's just a rip to cash in on the Charger legend.

it's not a CHARGER in my eyes either, but it ain't bad. i was very annoyed at Chrysler for not offering the Hemi in any cars other than a luxury sedan or a station wagon. i still want it lighter (and therefore faster and more nimble) but i still like it a lot more than the magnum. the styling too, like the front end, is more aggressive.

Redjake 01-23-2005 06:18 PM

Wow. That first link is pretty damn ugly. They should ask Ford how to pay homage.

Wingless 01-24-2005 08:20 AM

Better than the GTO...

It's a Dodge, I didn't expect much from them, but at least the concept was decent looking. The production car is just ugly

powerclown 01-24-2005 12:17 PM

Fast, but looks terrible. And why a sedan? Looks like they bolted some pieces onto an Intrepid.
"Dodge Charger" in name only, no sense of the past at all.
Way to go, DaimlerChrysler... :(

1slOwCD8 01-24-2005 01:16 PM

Wow, ugly..... thats all i have to say.

arch13 01-24-2005 03:01 PM

This is silly.
We all know there is only one true Charger! When Dodge paints one of these baby's up and puts it out as the revamped charger with udated drivetrain and a modified front grille (becuase the grille is god awful) then well talk. Until then, dodge is just raiding it's own history for a quick buck.

Chrysler has gotten a good reputation for producing cars that look like their concepts. Meanwhile most of their competition puts out really cool looking concept cars, then produces some massively dumbed-down version that looks like whatever they're selling already.

And that's why Chrysler made such a huge comeback. They obviously fucked up by straying from that mentality with the new Charger, and I hope they don't repeat that mistake again.

lite campfire 01-24-2005 11:11 PM

Damnit! I was hoping the massive outcry would stop this thing, or at least rename it.
New cars suck.

dtheriault 01-25-2005 04:57 AM

To me it looks like the new mustang... a little.

It wouldn't look half as bad if they had just squared off the front. The sharp rectangle look always make the charger look tough and evil.

If they really wanted to turn heads then they could've introduced new LED headlamps so you could make the whole front grill black and recessed and then you're talking.

RaDiAn 01-25-2005 09:50 AM

uugggh what were they thinking!!!

cyrnel 01-25-2005 10:23 AM

Dodge's Aztec.

GetRdone 01-25-2005 04:13 PM

the front end reminds me of the stratus/intrepeid front end

jjibad 02-02-2005 09:07 AM

That is the next Cop Car in a town near you, stay tuned.........
