Custom Exhaust
Im planning to get dual custom exhausts on my 4th generation Prelude. My question is about how much will this cost to get it done in a custom shop? Also what exhaust systems would you guys recommend? I wanted an Apexi N1 exhaust but if i get 2 of them that would be around 1000 + the custom piping needed for it and the total is a little too much for me. So about how much would getting Dual custom exhausts cost for my Lude??

I went to college with a girl who got duals ran on her tibouron. She said she paid around $400. for it all. That ran $150 for each muffler, and $100 for the custom piping. It looked really cool on her car. She had two strait shot 'cannon' type mufflers, although I can't remember the brand.
Your largest expense will definitely be the mufflers, the piping will vary from shop to shop. Question is, are you going for looks, or for actual performance?? If your going for looks, any press bent piping will do the trik. If you're going for performance(large turbo maybe??) then you'll want to get mandrel bent pipes. shops that have true mandrel benders will be more expensive, but the extra flow will be well worth it. Just in case you were wondering why I asked about a turbo, a turbo's favorite exhaust is NO exhaust, so the better the flowing exhaust, the quicker spool up you'd get. But, I'm sure you already knew that. Post pictures when you get it done.

An aftermarket exhuaust on a Prelude will not make very much difference in terms of HP/Kw. If you're looking for an exhaust purely for rice reasons, then obviously, just get a fat ass muffler.
I've never seen a turbo on a Prelude. I think the VTEC is about as good as you'll get.

There is a bunch of turbo ludes around here (MN) Including one H22 that did 281 WHP on 6PSI!
Exhuast will not make much of a performance differnce on the car but as stated if you want a custom look, there ya go... If you want a N1 "style" muffler look at Tsudo.. Nice stuff for the price.

O.K., if adding an exhaust to a car does not improve horsepower/tourque, than how could companies like HKS, GReddy, Thermal R&D, etc. make a living selling their exhaust systems. These companies have invested tons of research and developement hours designing and testing different techniques to improve the flow of spent exhaust fumes. Check some magazines that do buildup cars using dyno's to watch as the horsepower/torque curves climb simply by adding such things as intakes, exhausts, even spark plugs, or coil boosters. Not ALL of the aftermarket is about rumbling 'bumblebee exhausts' and 20" wheels on compact cars, some of it actually DOES improve power, and overall performance!
Sorry for the rant, but I felt it was needed.

Hell, the new exhaust on my Swift GTi yielded and 6kw, which is just a tad under a 10% gain

i am big into sport compacts, and the real truth is that an exhaust isnt going to help you that much. i mean at most you may get 5-10 horse out of it. and a good 20points added to the rice factor. but personally i think that a dual exhaust on that car is a waste of money. save the 500-600 dollars and save to buy a turbo.
also on a side note, i go to drag races alot. both 1/8th and 1/4 mile tracks. the thing is the only fast honda's that you see at them, either have a huge ass shot of nitrous. or have a hell of alot of money invested in them. a civic that runs nitro-methane comes to mind. the thing with either, is it will cost you an assload of money, the fast civics blow their engines quite often or trannys. bubba

save your money and buy some nitrous.
leave duals for the big boys for $1000, I would expect brand new 14 guage stainless pipes with perfect welds and great flow characteristics, and probably a nice shiney intake tube. Surprisingly I've seen 3 ricers with plastic CAI's????? they probably paid more than what they could have gotten a metal one off ebay for. MrGone |

I dont know im having some second doubts about them. If i were to just get one exhaust system, which one would you recommend?? I know this is all about opinion but which exhaust gives the most power gain? I was planning to get an Apexi N1 or maybe a Greddy Evo but im not sure. So whats the best system that gives me the most power gain?? GregR i mainly wanted dual exhaust on it because of the body kit and look, and i thought that it might add some power but now i know that it doesnt and it will reduce my power. But i still like the Dual custom look- so im unsure at this point. im going to have to sleep on this one tonight.

welll you could always make it look like you have a dual exhaust system... just get a pipe the same size as the other muffler stick out from below the bumper... or buy 2 of the the mufflers and just have one not connected to anything...
