New Mustang

Is anyone gonna buy one? I'm dying to see one in real life. The pics look awesome.

coming 11/01

merkerguitars 10-26-2004 10:29 PM

I saw a bunch on a car carrier a couple of nights ago...wow they are such a beautiful car in person.

Lockjaw 10-27-2004 05:32 AM

If you like them go visit your Ford dealership. They started receiving them early last week. But to answer the question...nope. At least not the V6 or GT version. The special editions like the Cobra, or the GT350 or the GT500 or Boss that they are going to build will be the cars to have from a performance and looks standpoint.
And then there's the rumored revival of the Dodge Challenger and the possible return of the Camaro in 07 and then the possibility of an supercharged Hemi Ram. My options are wide open...gotta see who's going to be top dog in the 25-30k price range before I commit to something.

krwlz 10-27-2004 05:49 AM

Personally I think that hood is hideous... Ford took a step back from the last mustang.

exizldelfuego 10-27-2004 09:06 AM

I actually saw one this past Sunday down in Burien, WA. It looked pretty hot. Not something I would ever buy, but it is something I look forward to seeing around town.

Halx 10-27-2004 10:10 AM

I will remain clear of American cars despite my appreciation for the design of this one.

Glory's Sun 10-27-2004 10:13 AM

it's a beautiful car.. seen a couple driving around town here... makes me drool with envy

1slOwCD8 10-27-2004 11:25 AM

I cannot wait to see them on the street crusin around, if i had the money i would definatly buy one.

anon85pd 10-27-2004 11:29 AM

I caught a glimpse of one on the street two days ago, down in st lucie county, FL, not sure if they've been officially released, but this guy was cruising in one, they're ok I guess. not a mustang fan, and while this one is nice cuz it stands out, it wont be in a few years, it'll just be as commonplace as the mustang is now, unfortunately.

You are cuttin off a whole lot of great cars doin that, but its up to you obviously...

werneron 10-27-2004 11:07 PM

I will eventually get one- always been a mustang purist. They really haven't done much for me since 1970 but now I think they finally got it right.

fastom 10-27-2004 11:53 PM

I like 'em! I like the production version better than the hard edged prototypes that made the rounds.

moneypit 10-28-2004 02:08 AM

I tend to think Ford cheaps out on their designs, changing sheet metal while using essentially the same engines and chassis for decades, but this mustang is changing my perceptions of Ford and American cars in general. A friend of mine writes for motorsportscenter.com (great independent car review site, btw) and took me for a ride in a press fleet GT. I was initially most impressed by the ~1000W stock stereo, but other cool little things were the fact that it runs on 87 octane, the GT comes with a 6 speed tranny (same model as in corvette, viper), and Ford used the Volvo engineers to apparently make this mustang just about as safe as the base Volvos.

Cool car, but the Cadillac CTS-V my friend was also reviewing was a superior sports car... now that's a perception I'm still having difficulty changing.

Wow where to start....
Ummmm first off the GT does not get a 6 speed. It's a 5 speed in both auto and manual form. The T-56 will not be showing up in the Mustang. Ford did not use Volvo's platform to do this. This new platform is all in house Ford and is based off the Lincoln LS DEW platform with a three link panhard rear suspension and the solid rear axle.

And you can't compare the CTS-v to the Mustang. The CTS-v is a 50k car the GT is like 26k. That's like comparing a Corvette to a Neon.

Vortex22 10-28-2004 05:46 AM

I saw a red GT on the road a few days ago. It was sex

eagle1 10-28-2004 04:32 PM

If I had the money I'd get one.

I've rebuilt two 1968 Mustangs, one was a coupe, the other a 2+2. I think the '05 looks pretty good as a retro 67-68 model. Definately one I'm keeping my eye on.

Yup, I was mixing up the press kit with something else in regard to the T-56. I meant to be saying that I recall the transmission being a Tremec unit and is a newer model than the T-56.

No, the platform is not Volvo-- the point was that Volvo engineers designed the crumple zones and passenger cage. Not to say that it wasn't in-house since you obviously know Ford owns Volvo.

Good point about the 3 link-- not even the upcoming cobra will get independent rear suspension, correct?

The CTS-V outperforms the Mustang and costs more... yes. Just remarking that the CTS-V is a formidable sports car and not something I would expect from Cadillac.

The link above is to a 70 Mustang I bought about 6 months ago, scroll down to see the car finished, its an interesting comparison to the new one....I gotta tell you that when Detroit goes retro especially back to the 60's and 70's muscle car era they can't help but win with it(and let us win in the process) ...Good for Ford!!! Now when do you guys think GM is gonna get off their dead ass with the Pontiac GTO??

bodypainter 10-30-2004 02:55 AM

I was driving by the Ford dealership yesterday and stopped to look at a couple of new Mustangs sitting outside. One 6 and one 8 cylinder.

I like it from the outside from almost every angle and in my eyes that's quite an achievement. It definitely has a the look of a nice blend of the '67/8 and '69/70 fastbacks.

The interior is a different story. The best thing I can say about the interior is 'meh'. Of course, I haven't driven it yet so my opinion could change if the seats prove to be more supportive than they appear and the dash more functional than I think it'll be. Nothing wrong with the giant speedo and tach, but the rest of it left me cold, especially the center console area.

Ok I must have misunderstood what you meant about the Volvo thing sorry.
And the Cobra when released like will be getting the IRS as they designed the platform to readily accept live axle or IRS with no change needed in the switch over. The GT was SUPPOSED to get the IRS set up but it was likely going to cost a little too much so they went with the live axle. And personally I'm definately ok with that. For my type of driving and where I live I don't need an IRS and it would likely get yanked for a 9 inch Ford rear end anyway.

Gnzo 10-30-2004 09:38 PM

Well, I saw one on the street the other day. Had to be one of the first purchased '05 mustangs. It was pretty plain looking, wasn't a GT. I think Ford did a good job with this ocar, but they did skimp. I was super excited when the "final" prototype came out, only to be disappointed with the body changes so the car could be more affordable. Oh-well, I will stick with a '67.

No need to be sorry-- thanks for the info Lockjaw.

I've been drooling over the thought of this new Mustang ever since I heard that it was coming.

f0rd 11-06-2004 11:14 AM

I love the new design. My Sonic Blue GT is on order :)

ledhead 11-07-2004 02:36 PM

i saw one on the road today, i was surprised because i did not know they were out yet. anyway, imo . . .

KirStang 11-07-2004 04:16 PM

Yea, i saw one yesterday! They look really good :)

Unfortunately, they will become as popular as current mustangs, and be commonplace :(

NorCal_DC4 11-10-2004 02:06 AM

Went to SEMA last week, and they had a half-dozen or so in varying states of modification.

Absolutely gorgeous. They nailed it in terms of design IMO.
Clearly a "Mustang", but without blatantly being "retro".

A much, much, much better design than the whimpy, noncommital Thunderbird IMO.

I'm not wild about the live axle, though. :o They gave the car a brand-new platform, but kept the traditional setup alive. If I were to buy, I think I'd wait for an independent rear suspension to come to market.

cj22009 11-10-2004 05:30 AM

I am considering buying one for sure I really like them first car I have seen in a long time that made me go I have got to get one of those.

yodapaul 11-10-2004 04:27 PM

I bought a 2005 Windveil blue Mustang GT last week, I Drove it right off the showroom floor. It is such a great car, a large improvment from last years, and the sound that the car makes is just amazing. I love MY NEW car! :D

DJMala 11-11-2004 05:26 PM

I saw one at the New England Auto Show the other day. I've never, ever been a Mustang fan at all, but the '05 is a damned fine looking car. If GM could do as well, and bring the Camaro back in similar form, life would be good. :)

tellumFS 11-12-2004 09:21 PM

Impressive looking car. This is probably the first Mustang that's been easy on the eyes in awhile. It really is good to see a more retro look.

Exactly my opinion. I love how Ford is giving a sleek, retro look to the '05 Mustang. Most of my friends despise the car, but if I had the money, I would go out and buy one today. No. Right now.

bluehare 11-13-2004 02:53 PM

they look good.
and I hate mustangs.
that should tell you to get off your arse and go to a ford dealer.

Scorps 11-13-2004 05:14 PM

I have still yet to see one aroudn here....not even at the 3 Ford dealerships we got in town....wierd!

Halx 11-14-2004 02:59 AM

I saw two of these in Hollywood. They look good, but familiar. They will blend in with every other car out there, except for we car freaks.

Gabbyness 11-14-2004 09:47 AM

Car freaks unite, I dig em.

1slOwCD8 11-21-2004 08:18 AM

OMG, i just saw one yesterday. Soo much better to see it in person. I think it was a GT, cause of the rims it had. I dunno, but still, it was freakin awesome.
