2001 Grand Prix Coils Plugs Wires Change
Well my friend is slowly building up his 2001 grand prix GTP....so first thing we decided to do is Plugs, Wires and Coils. For this we chose to get the following
ACCEL GM DIS coil set (set of three) only $120 not bad...and thats before my special discount :) Taylor Spiro Pro 8mm Universal 8 cylinder set of wires (the custom fit ones only came in blue, black or red. and the universal wires for a 6 cylinder only come in the same colors) Only $60 and they are a damn nice set of wires. Bosch Platinum Plugs So here are the pics I'll post more as we install them later tonight hopefully Stock coils, GM's ignition is pretty damn nice in my opinion, reliable powerful but we wanted more. http://www.oldweakandpathetic.com/me...ck%20coils.jpg Here is the whole lot of parts we picked up. http://www.oldweakandpathetic.com/me...CoilsWires.jpg Here are just the coils....They say caution lethal voltage on the side of them :) http://www.oldweakandpathetic.com/me...ange/Coils.jpg The nice new wires. They have shorter boots on them which will make things alot nicer. http://www.oldweakandpathetic.com/me...ange/Wires.jpg |
Interesting...where are you putting the coils?
|
Well got them installed...Plugs where a pain in the ass to change, but we got them done.

please say they weren't splitfire or 4+ plugs.. those never seem to do anything but add misfires
|
nope bosch platinum 2 plugs....splitfires are junk....amazingly the plugs in there only had 30k on them and they looked pretty wore out.
|
Believe it or not, if you want the best performance, a standard copper plug is the way to go. All those platinum 2, 4, split blah blah are gimmicks. The only thing they are good for is longevity if anything. Copper is good for conductivity whereas platinum is good for longevity. NGK makes a good plug, I reccommend them. The only drawback to copper plugs is you'll have to replace them a bit more often then platinums. I'm sorry to say, but in a boosted application like yours, I would switch to an NGK next time. Nice ride.

Nice car! I have a '98 GT, myself. Bone stock, unfortunately. :(
Have you been over to http://www.clubgp.com? There's quite a bit of good information on modding there. What do you have planned next for the car? |

Future mods...well next he wants to do headers, high flow car and exhaust.....Right now we are getting ready to put some gauges in, Voltmeter, Boost, (it has a stock boost gauge but it doesn't say an actual psi) Oil Pressure and air fuel ratio. We might have a spare engine soon available that we will put some good guts into :)

just a thought -----as far as plugs go I would reccomend the ac delco platinum plugs that came in the vehicle. I sell a lot of spark plugs and deal with the techs in our service bays and almost all would agree with the ac plugs in a gm engine.
BTW... The plugs are huge pain in the ass eh? |
