prediciment in selling/buying
OK, here's the deal, I found the perfect price for the car I've been looking for and I've been looking for quite a while. Not only is the price great but the engine on the car is pretty much new and for an old (they stopped making it) car this it really a find in my opinion. Along with all of those things it is about forty miles from me where every other one I've seen is either in Canada or on the other side of the country in California (if you haven't guessed it yet the car I'm looking at is a VW Vanagon 89). The only problem with this whole situation is I haven't sold my current vehicle yet I have to do that to get the money for this new investment. I've allready got it posted on autotrader and all of that but it's a Ford, not only that but it's also a Taurus so it might take a while to sell (I wouldn't really consider a Ford Taurus 2001 a hot vehicle on the market about now). Is there any option that I have overlooked or dont know about? What would you guys reccomend that I do before Dude sells this VW to someone else?

Sell your car, quick! In the meantime, go see the one you like with an expert friend/mechanic. Express an interest if it drives and looks right, has the receipts - ask the vendor to tell you if he gets another offer. If you explain the deal there's no reason why the vendor can't inform you of developments.
If you're really mad-keen on the motor, try and leave a deposit. |
the problem that I'm having is selling the car, it's not really a desireable car to have but it's a good car none the less. Is there anything that I could do to speed up the selling process?

carmax is always running ads on the radio around here (texas) saying they will buy your used car even if you don't buy a car from them. you'd get a lower price than selling it yourself, but if you need cash quick it might be an option.

another option would be a personal loan from a credit union or such. the interest rates are higher than on a car loan, but if you sell your other car and pay it off right away the interest rate becomes less important.

that carmax idea sounds great, do you know how much less they would give me as opposed to holding out for a buyer? a guesstimate would be cool

OK I went to carmax and they offered me two thousand bucks for a six thousand dollar car. I didn't take the offer. It's been two weeks and I still haven't gotten a truly interested buyer for my car. it's posted in autotrader mag and online, is there anything else I might be able to do to speed up the process?

i posted my WRECKED 95 grand prix in the thrifty nickel... for like $36 bucks it ran for two weeks in the local TN and on their website, had 8 calls in a week, sold it by that saturday (started running monday)
seemed like a good place to sell... i'd definately use it again |
I assume it's your daily driver, but if you can park it in a shopping center lot for a day with a sign, a phone number, and a price. You will likely get some calls.
