Here's some info: 1987 Audi 5000S, 5 cylinder automatic transmission. The problem: transmission will not shift out of first gear. The car was run when it was very low on oil (guess the oil light doesn't work). The transmission fluid level was ok but not topped off. I know nothing about automatics so any input on troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated.

Could simply be a misadjustment, too. Lots of things to check out.
