the further motoring misadventures of sion

AARRGGGGH!!!!! I'm SO pissed off right now. The fuel pump on my 92 NYer has gone out. That's bad enough. It is compounded by the fact that the car died at the grocery store, so I have to find a way to get it home before I can even begin to fix it. Top that off with the fact that I JUST filled the tank a couple of days ago, so I've got to deal with 15-18 gallons of gas when I lower the tank (and heaven forbid that an American car maker could put in an access port under the back seat or in the trunk, like some foriegn cars have). And, as if that wasn't enough, I've checked around and a new pump is going to cost me $150, because you can only buy it as part of a complete assembly (bracket, module, pump and float assembly). WHY THE HELL DO THEY DO THAT? I ONLY NEED THE PUMP!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I could spit nails right now.

Sion, check with local salvage yards and see if you can get a salvage pump. Probably a helluva lot cheaper.

Usually I advocate that approach as well, but a fuel pump is such a royal pain in the ass to replace that I usually tell people to just bite the bullet and buy new. It'd REALLY suck to get the salvaged one in there and have to drop the tank to replace it again in a week.

Well when you get the tank out you could make an access hole...or if your lucky you might be able to make one while the tank is in the car, which I have done.

the nice thing about the older chryslers like that is that you dont have to drop the tank all the way out, just loosen the straps. Then you can weasel the pump out, since it is located on the back of the tank
